Chaitin’s constant is god It exists in a world beyond the human one, It is infinite, creative, irreducible, (I am that I am), mostly shrouded in mystery, promises eternity (math as an open system), and is for some just an abstract idea and for the Platonist a reality Comment from : OutrageIncorporated |
Another banger! Keep them coming Curt! Comment from : xanxus |
Excellent interview Comment from : Myboloneyhasafirstname |

This is special! Comment from : Sotirios |

God is not a mathematician Mathematicians are delusional, even Tesla stated that It's probably the main reason physics has made absolutely NO progress well over 100 years Humanity needs to pull its head out if it's ass and get back to real science and end academic ass kissing Comment from : Mark Patton |
I recommend to pick up and read a few books Peter Lynch and Rich dad Poor dad is where I was recommended to start Learn different strategies so that you might develop your own Comment from : Broszki West |
This one is really great, thanks a lot for the podcast! Comment from : Otomar Jupiter |
I had to watch it a couple times to make sure, but he said he was friends with Carl Schwarzchild It's weird how we can loft people up ideally and not think of them as real I guess these, giants of their field, will have friends too Comment from : Benjamin BEARD |
This is an amazing episode! Fascinating! Thank you both so much! Comment from : Kevin Pérez |
Could someone answer this one please: Can infinities exist without infinite time? Comment from : The Douglas W Lipp Channel |
That's some irony in the clip of the video It says "God is a mathematician" but within the first 30 minutes, he said "I think it's better to say God is a computer" Comment from : dirtynachobuffet |

whats the difference between algorithmic information theory and the simulation hypothesis that also has its roots in theology ? the universe gets purpose and meaning controlled and made by the programmer the religions call GOD If GOD is a programmer he must be outside of his simulation so that means he has been observing his simulated universe and has been looking at the earth the last 4 billion years and seen all that suffering you should of think he would program a more caring universe if he were all loving and all powerful brbrIt defiantly a programmer who likes evil and lets psychopaths control the world and history So I want to know who is this programmer ? does the programmer have consciousness ? who created the programmer ? Is it not interesting that the modern theories also ends with more questions because thought and information is limited we are still asking the same questions humanity has been thinking of since we evolved into human sapience according to Darwin Comment from : Dont follow think for your self |

Human beings do not like war IMO Comment from : The Douglas W Lipp Channel |

re: beauty in mathematics - I wonder if the biological desire for a symmetrical mate (implying healthy genes and gene expression) is some subtle driving factor in our appreciation for the beauty in math since math is ripe with symmetry Comment from : Kowzorz |
re: A digital cosmos, 1s and 0s - I've always half-seriously maintained that everything is just a structure made of a substructure plus nothing/space And that substructure is recursively also further-substructure and more nothing/space, etc etc This can be sort of thought of as a digital nature, the house of cards that makes a 1 in totality and appears to have plenty of 1s on the inside, only to reveal large 0s and tiny recursive islands of 1s with any real scrutiny Near any structure you can think of in our universe fits this bill of "tiny thing inside mostly empty large structure" at some level of its existence: galaxy->stars stellar systems->planetary bodies atoms->nucleus/point-electron Makes me wonder if the random of quantumstuff stems from a new (or banal) kind of chaos from the pattern-satisfying tiny things informing bthose/b mechanics (yes, I know, planck stuff, limits of density etc etc) Comment from : Kowzorz |
This is high octane stuff! Thanks and Appreciated! D from Scotland Comment from : david ball |

Brilliant and informative as usual Thank you both You two make us think Comment from : Javad Hashtroudian |

6:10 - People use faith to suppress facts they don't like The culture of science is built on a series of cognitive biases around a specific, and increasingly unlikely, outcome to Goedels incompleteness theorems Comment from : GingerHipster |
Mathematics is not the universal language In other dimensions, 2+2 may not equal 4 It is foolish to think that is true It is yet more anthropomorphizing on our part The entire idea that there are fixed laws that govern the universe is in fact an anthropomorphic one What we call fixed laws may not in fact be fixed at all They may evolve over time See Rupert Sheldrake, for example Comment from : Dirk Wright |
1:35:00 the flame analogy for life is actually interesting and made me remember that in Quran it says "and we created djinns from smokeless fire"brI guess flames is a dispersive open system but doesn't create orderbrBut plasma could be, like I remember this Romanian professor who worked in German space agency on dusty plasma research and who claimed in his papers that dusty plasma exhibit life like behaviors like memory, multiplication and even evolution, but i should confess my ignorance about the topicbrI should add that i find this link relevant to UFO/UAP because existence of a plasmoid lifeforms could explain the UFO phenomena on earth and in space Comment from : zazugee |
1:23:00 in software design or programming it's called an abstraction layerbrThe idea that a chess game is a chess game irrelevant of the nature of the board and pieces, they can be stones, plastic, ivory, or non material like pencil and paper, or simulated or even inside a chess player's mind Comment from : zazugee |
Not related but I remember Bob Uhouse if I remember correctly A worker in Area 51, who, to whittle it down to the main point, and stick with me here lol He said on speaking to JRod the alien that no matter what humans did to create a copy of the UFO, it would never fly The best mathematicians were involved, and the only way it would work was when the math was wrongbrIt's way out there I know but I found it very interesting that the math as we understand it, is wrong when dealing with an advanced propulsion system A system that can travel at the speeds they do needs mathematics we don't yet understand Possibly string theory, or perhaps even weirder than string theory Or maybe I'm mad Comment from : Eleventh Monkey Gaming |
im just here looking for advice on my power washer How does this help me and wtf you taking about? Comment from : M |

I Ching has 64 hexagrams (6 lines) based on a binary system Back to Methulesa was staged at the National Theatre London, Old Vic in 1971in two parts I saw one Comment from : Javad Hashtroudian |
Working in physics, I vividly remember the entire Pons/Fleischman episode They absolutely weren't helped by the fact that their university's publicity department made some kind of announcement which itself came from a PR department, not a physics one To recover from that alone, they'd have had to be proven correct almost immediately The whole thing wasn't science, it was a lynching Comment from : David Wright |
Information based paradigm (computation, complexity theory) is to the 21st century what geometric (differential, algebraic) based paradigm is to the 20th centurybrbrFor those wanting to contribute to the frontline and find the deepest connections of this century, study the boundary between the information paradigm and the geometric paradigm Comment from : ApePostle |

Three guesses, the man claiming god is mathematics is a mathematician brSolipsism, anyone?brAnother towering intellect humbled by smug brbrMath fetish has shown it’s systemic limits via Godel, and why so little progress has been made in decades Comment from : Jonathan Gibson |
Thank you both for an extremely interesting and idea-provocative discussion A good couple of months for me just to sort out the ideas and understand something of them My own background is in mathematical physics (relativity) but with sidelong glances in very abstract directions Here there's a wonderful interplay between mathematics, logic in the form of computation, and mappings between these and the biological and otherwise physical With a good sprinkling of the philosophically interesting informed by the rest Thanks again! I've waited years for discussions like this Comment from : David Wright |
His statement that people are good at suppressing inconvenient facts couldn’t be more true when applied to today even though he’s referring to reactions of individuals in the past In fact, I would say that “suppressing inconvenient facts” has run rampant to the extent that vast numbers are not only living in unreality or delusions to the point of mass psychosis that makes it seem extraordinary that anyone would come out and discuss fact based truths about anything This interview here is sanity 101 and thank heavens for Gregory Chaitin and his ilk Comment from : Nonpareil storyteller |

i"God is a mathematician"/ibrbrThat's just one of God's games God cannot be defined at all Comment from : Corteum9000 |

Gregory Chaitin was wanderingim if any religious books were talking about cristal The Urantia book mention a sea of glass These revelations in the Urantia book are mathematical and much more Comment from : PJ |
I read a paper claiming Randy Mills is just burning metal and that is where the extra energy is coming frombrbrAt any rate how can he ever prove he created hydrinos or dark matter, when there's no way to detect them The spectral lines could still be burning metal, or different mistake? I would like to see an interview with him though Maybe he can explain better Comment from : Jaime Sherrill |
Didn’t Turing work with Tesla Comment from : Tritun |
49:28 - Rumor has it context is information ^^ Comment from : The Memes of Destruction |

Maths are tools of approximation and measurement God, intelligent nature are far beyond that Mathematics don’t exist in nature, math is a construct and a neverending rabbithole Math sets us apart from our own nature and reality and helps us building a facade of synthetic limited qualities to life Math, I’m sorry, it’s going against God We can’t win or catch up cause math leaves us out of universal integrity in its most physical/biological/spiritual meaning at the most egocentric unconscious willful bloatware pseudo-intelligent obsolescent mercy But hey, I’m so stupidly wrong right, look at the world we have… Comment from : Krøne |
There’s a wonderful documentary film about Gregory - “Gregory Chaitin - Against Method” 2015 Well worth a watchbrbrKeep up the fantastic work Curt! Comment from : Terpsichore |

Great job? Comment from : Kevin Bouyer |
I think it's amusing and telling of how deep this discretization has penetrated thought that in considering zero and one, the entirety of the in between is left out brWhen as we know, for every number larger than one, there is an inverse reciprocal inside of 1 brThe boundarybrThe entirety of geometry is inside of a unit circle Comment from : Caleigh Fisher |
And so finds himself uniquely powerless because of his uniqueness Comment from : Mark Wrede |
No it's not zero and 1 that create the universe A binary distinction does We just happen to use 0 and 1 to represent it Any 2 symbols could be used 0 in binary only means 'zero' in a subset of instances Comment from : supercal333 |
I love how you don't put up a lot of ads but as a subscriber I think you deserve the revenue so I'd be willing to still watch even if you put a ton of ads in Just saying Comment from : Matthew Dieter |

The orators cannot transcend their training, the academics cannot transcend their paradigm
brThe orator is always enforcing a subjective association that is all consuming
brThe academic is always enforcing a paradigm that is either inconsistent or incomplete

Mathematicians do math because they know they exist when they are mathingbrbrGodels incompleteness theorem applies to mathematics itself There is no conclusion to mathematics because the purpose of thought is to distract attention away from Self (the frame of reference; the "nothing")brbrThis is the game Thought builds the labyrinth and convinces the ego that it's leading to Reality Mathematicians are lost in delusion Comment from : Roy Dopson |
