I buy new and used How ever, vinyl never went away It left the mainstream but vinyl always stayed in print I'm 46 and used tapes and cds throughout my life Tapes in the 90s were convenient and cheap We would make mix tapes and pass them out and trade It wasn't about sound quality but they are simple, rugged and compact

Physical media is just better I grew up having to buy dvds to watch movies And having to get CD's if i wanted to listen to music I hate streaming and adds

Unfortunately, one of the negatives of pre-recorded compact cassettes is that the sound quality wasn't that good on many tapes It was only near the end of cassette's heyday that the Record Industry made an effort to improve the sound quality

I would suggest you watch "cassette comeback" on YouTube, he will give lots of advice on audio cassettes I would say but a good quality 1980/1990 cassette deck Avoid BPC (Black plastic crap) but you will need to spend about $200-$400 for an excellent sounding cassette deck I would absolutely recommend a nakamichi BX2/2, 480Z, BX125/150 the 480Z would be the best of them Find one fully serviced by a competent person and you will be blown away by the sound quality Other decks to look for would be the technics RS-M 250 or Sony TC-K 61 to 81 all extremely good decks

i’ve been considering getting into cassettes, as well as dvds, for a while now it’s not really a “retro hipster aesthetic” thing, i honestly just increasingly don’t trust things that i “own” but can’t hold with the number of movies and tv shows that certain streaming services will just decide to completely erase, as well as the amount of ai generated/augmented music, if i can’t hold it in my hands i don’t trust it to stick around

It's never too late to collect something though I urge you reconsider your choice of equipment If you're really into boomboxes, you can still get the one made by Sony or Panasonic brand new These will be a much better option than the Victrola

CDs are currently my favourite music format due to the price, sound quality and size of the cases They aren't as flashy as vinyl records, but I lost interest in collecting them because they were too expensive and large I also don't have a good enough record player for embrI like the look of cassette tapes and my parents had some Queen and Meat Loaf tapes when I was growing up They are nice and small but I don't have anything to play them on and the sound quality isn't great I mostly want to get Linkin Park - Meteora so that I can have the album on all three formats including digitally!

It took me awhile to appriciate that Blink 182 album I have a vinyl problem too! I find that Discogs is one of my favorite places to shop online for records Might be able to find the Metallica Black Casette there for a good price
