As I sit here at home doing unpaid prep this morning, they asked me, the lead teacher, to start at noon because they need to “share the wealth” with other staff when our hours are limited The pay is insulting and the shuffling and juggling of our schedules and time is no better

$18/hr is pretty good pay for babysitting babies But, for a few credentials more, one can do very well babysitting the older kids in public school

i'm studying for ece as of currently unsure what kind but do know it does have to with ece but even i empathize with the actual eces, in fact i think its outrageous how underpaid teachers and other ece are despite all their hard work career i mean all that and they only get paid that much? it makes me worry that i’ll also eventually end up having to get to that point of quitting as well if the underpay issue continues on and i really dont want it to come to that i absolutely love working with children it makes me feel good about myself as a person and its the only career path i am passionate about but this just cannot continue its not fair for them at all

I’ve been an ECE for nearly 7 years and I’ve been thinking of leaving the profession altogether We’re treated horribly on a regular basis, more so when we become sick or injured and are paid next to nothing It’s just not worth it I feel guilty for considering leaving because I care about the kids in my care and want to see them do well

childhood educators make the same as a young person just starting out in the work force working at a fast-food establishment We essentially help parents raise and Teach there children This is the hardest job Teaching, feeding, changing diapers, challenging behaviors the list is endless and the stress level in this industry is very hard on an educator that is why most skilled educators are leaving they can have the same pay less stress and work, working at the mall

It is very sad that we paid as "baby sitter" It is very hard to live as a professional My role is special need support in preschool, but paid like no difference with others However, most of the daycare or preschool doesn't care you have a SNE or not Because they can use ECEA to do it for less So, why do you go through more education, more money to get pay less? It is totally an insult

I used to be in early childhood industry for five years High number of students, high medical leave rate, huge amount of stress from the expectations to deliver curriculum perfectly left me exhausted I went to software engineering and didn't look back for a while

Maybe we should be looking at why there are so few people who are able to start daycare businesses On its surface, if you have 20 kids whose parents are paying 1500 a month for daycare, that is an annual income of 360k a year That is more than enough to pay 2 people a decent wage and cover operating costs Is it perhaps government regulation that is driving up expenses? If there is such a high demand for child care, why is the supply so limited?

I graduated in 1998, and at the time my instructors told me the burn-out rate was 5 years I wonder what it is now? I'm older and will have to leave the profession soon, as the physical toll is becoming too much It has gotten much worse since 2020 I'm very worried about my future I'm trying to save some money, to go back to school

As a former Early educator myself! Lack of pay! Especially in the state of Florida! The 4 plus years of schooling & continuing eduction training ! Many lack giving there stuff support healthcare benefits ect… Pay is horrible! With my experience & EDU I’m offered $15-$20 hour sad part rent here in Florida is double my pay We are not just babysitters !! Without early education specialist many children would lack so much and so would the families Many families need caregivers and so does the each state especially children who are in the foster care system must be in with a license caregiver

There have been many studies on brain development in young children (ages 1 to 5) which have shown that the stimulation received during this time can dictate how well children preform in school later on And we all know that academic performance often determines the "success" of someone's career later on In other words ECEs are laying the ground work for kid's success later in life By not investing in ECEs we are divesting in the future generation

ECE student in New Zealand here It’s so interesting to see that ece educators around the world are facing the same issues I’m not even finished with my ECE degree and I want to leave it already The problem with the profession is that A, parents do not see early years as an important time of learning and B, the current structure of ECE isn’t actually benefiting children the way that it should The best teachers I’ve met in my 2 years of study do not like, and do not believe in the business focused structure of ECE The poor pay is only the start of these issues

I teared up watching this, ECE was my life for 4 years and I loved every single minute and every child I took care of with all of my heart and soul ❤ I HAD to leave the profession because I couldn't afford living 5 days off a year, no benefits, no health insurance (and we get sick a lot), no 401K, 2 paid holidays a year and no pay for snow days!!!! I had to buy a lot of my supplies to ensure learning was happening in a fun and constructive way brChildcare workers deserve more!!!!!

We are much more than babysitters we are educators who is guiding and caring for young children, inspiring children to develop their creativity, art, dramatic play, math, science,social studies, geography, biology, music, circle time, learning how to be independent and a lot more, repetitively We are the secondary caregiver and educator For that being said, we deserve more than minimum wage! We love to teach!! Even in Guatemala we have the same problem!! I could be paid 150 more working at a call center!!! It's really a shame!! I worked at a company not related to educational before They usted to paid me more and with less stress than as a being a teacher What do I mean? Man I left that dump of city and returned back to the maritimes because the rents were starving me of living a half decent life I make a few dollars less than that, but I work in a group home, mostly doing crossword puzzles, yes, I am just a sitter, but, I don't pay rent , only utilities, because my employer owns property and does not charge rent to his workers I too have a degree, but it is worthless Toronto is no longer a place to survive in, unless the government is paying your bills
