Player agency depends on the writing An RPG shoots up in cost because you have to factor writers Quest designers, ten the branching dialogue How those descisions change the world What faction? Why are so many rpgs so cheap? People mock Bioware or Bethesda, but an rpg is tough to craft "oh I have my protagonist do x Ok They want to do Y But go for zbrDid you plan that? Or make the world? Anytime somebody does a three pillars explanation, I always think there's some fourth pillar that's at least as important In this case, I think tone is critical in game design, since it is a differentiating characteristic between otherwise similar games For example, Skyrim and Fable are totally the same genre, but very different in tone Without keeping the tone in mind, a designer can erroneously add things that really don't belong Comment from : @bc4198

i think VA-11 Hall-A actually delivers well on all three fronts i think it's more focused on characters, as that is the primary mechanic - serving drinks to people in a bar, and all the characters are distinct and interesting it appears very plot light at first, but it is eventually revealed that it's about forgiving yourself and reconnecting with those you love and the lore is super interesting, it really goes above and beyond exploiting it's cyberpunk setting and building the world around you a wonderfully written game Comment from : @lynchie2073
