Thanks I tried some of these and there is already a different atmosphere in the classroom At 3:56is, it is mentioned that students don't like to be singled out This is one place I need work My question is, should I single out students with positive behavior? I work in a vocational school with 30 students in a class every other week, juniors & seniors Classroom management can be easy or extremely difficult, usually one extreme of the other Any suggestions that teachers that have the same group of kids all day in a room with no windows and lots of rules due to the nature of what we teach will be appreciated, thank you

Seating plan is a brilliant idea and one that I use personally 😊brGreeting students is another tip I use it really builds a good rapport with students!

Loved it but unfortunately I have that one student who no matter what I do he never changes his attitudeI've tried to address his behaviour privately or to just talk to him or to give him a heads up during the class moreover one of the head teachers came and yelled at him and we said that we are going to expel him but nothing worked and also I tried to stop paying attention to his behaviour or to joke about it but still nothing worked and I'm still thinking of ways to help him knowing that his parents don't care about his attitude in school

I felt like I could quit teaching every single day despite 19 years vested in my craft I feel like I can't find the same joy I used to have being hands-on with science I have no desire to engage in conflict with my students But every day is a struggle Luckily, I saw this film, which reminded me I was sabotaging myself and the relationships with my students with simple interactions Tip # 9 will help me refocus and show the kids that learning may be more enjoyable if we can find some common ground I must start by remembering that these kids want to perform when they are called upon, and although I don't want to undermine them, I also don't want to give them the opportunity to take over

I do a version of NOISE I use the word GAME? I promise the kids a 2-3 minute group game at the end of every class, unless the word game gets erased due to poor behavior (too loud, rude, kids out of seat, off task, etc) It works really well However, I'd love to change it up and use your NOISE idea sometimes But my question isas a primary teacher, what would I do if I implemented 3 minutes of silence but some of them STILL impulsively talked during that time? Any suggestions? Because I know several who will struggle I'd love to have some fair recourse for when that happens

I am a sub at a K-8 charter school The kids are very trained I have 4 son's and worked EC, so I am successful with the kids with shenanigans I give them eye contact, reinforce good behavior What do I do with the teacher's pets? They want to put kid's names on the board, tell me how to teach, what the teacher does, actually rearrange their desk, go into prize boxes I tell them it is not my desk or theirs and we will respect it, ask them to take a seat, I am considering writing their name on the board?

I guess my issue is kids who just refuse to follow directions I was a sub when I first tried high school, so that might have made my situation harder But I had a student who just refused to go into the hall The response was "you can't make me"

These are GREAT! I taught first grade for 5 years, and never struggled with classroom management I became a stay at home mom for the last 5 years after having my kids I am now subbing and when I sub upper grade / junior high I notice my classroom management with the littles doesn’t translate with older kids (obviously) I love these tips, I am going to try using NOISE today Thank you so much!

What does the rest of the class do while you’re out talking to the student in the hallway? Do you just send them into a quick turn and talk with their shoulder partner and leave one foot in the room and one in the hallway? I feel like chaos breaks out or the students volume gets too loud while I try to talk to a student in the hallway because they think it’s funny that their friend is in trouble

In my childhood, my primary school teachers were super sensitive with whether students were respectiful to them or not Sometimes, we didn't know how come this or that could be disrespectifulbrbrAnd my teachers often said, "You only get respected when you respect others If you don't respect others, others don't respect you" I guess this is a very wrong principle, isn't it?brbrI prefer your expression that "I respect you, and I expect you to respect me, too"

OMG this takes me back to my classroom teaching days, yes, definitely don't engage and ask them to step outside or sit at the back if they are fine and quiet there They first need to calm down before you can both talk It also gives them time to reflect on it
