I am watching this lightsaber battle almost every week I wanted to introduce Star Wars (1-6) to my wife She liked it She doesn't know there is a new trilogy I didn't want to destroy Star Wars for her But one day I was watching lightsaber duel from episode 7 She just checked the screen and asked: even it is a fanmade fight why can't they have better choreography They are just swinging the saber all over the place and not fighting How could they mess up the new trilogy that much?

All this hard work put into an insane amount of fight choreography, and they forgot about what lightsaber fights really need: Emotion between the characters, dialogue to progress the story, and a climax to the fight that progresses and deepens character depth I would rather watch the ‘77 Star Wars lightsaber fight than any of the prequel trilogy fights I just feel hollow and bored watching fights that FEEL staged and planned like the ones in the prequels I should be invested in the scene, rather than be shoved back into reality by over done choreography

The actors doing their own stunts and fighting these battles is what sets the prequel movies apart from all the modern superhero and most of the modern action movies The difference in the quality of the final product is huge brbrEpisode 2, where the fight with Count Dooku was largely stunt doubled and CGI (because Christopher Lee was probably too old to do it himself), was considerably worse than the fights in EP 1 or 3 brbrAnd let's not even touch the Disney movies, where the lightsaber battles consist of giving Daisy Ridley a sword and telling her to wave her arms around and they construct the whole battle with CG

I like how kendo is the base for all the combat, but elements of other styles sneak in too Like Anakin and Luke has mostly Kendo and European Broadsword fencing, but elements of wushu, traditional fencing and even some kali can be seen Darth Maul blends kendo and wushu, Dooku blends Traditional fencing with Kendo, Obi Wan uses a little bit of them all I also love the fictional styles of lightsaber combat and how they were born out of the characters choreography as the films went on Shi cho is mainly basic sword play, Ataru is all wushu, Makishi uses mostly fencing every fight is great and every character uses a unique match of fictional and real life martial arts

I really like episodes 1-3, it had some cringe moments but overall they was a really good movies Anakin and Padme relationship wasn't really that weird if you consider fact that Amidala was a princess, she knew how to rule but she don't know how to be ruled(i mean love), Anakin was raised space wizards so he must be weird

The problem with that fight was the frustrating amount of cutting and the fact that the duel had to share with two other battles, so a lot of the more impressive choreography in this fight can’t be seen in all its glory - at least until Kenobi starts fighting Maul alone
