Just wanted to update this review Year 4, with a bit of sharpening I'm still thrilled with this Auger! This is an excellent Auger wwwyoutubecom/post/Ugkxe0I-fnTUByahTCyStrIBXsesSkQJKn8n It splits to 1/2 size for storage in the warm months and easily assembles for winter use I can cut holes in less than a minute by and really don't feel the need to ever adapt this to use with a drill It cuts easily with the included blades (which can be sharpened or replaced as needed) and has held up extremely well through last season, and now for the first cuts of this season I do recommend this to anyone who asks, and personally prefer this over powered augers These are quiet, still quite fast, lighter, and don't risk spilling chemicals into our waterways I plan to do a lot of fishing this year through the ice, thanks to this trusty Auger The 8" diameter is great for fishing pike through the ice as well Comment from : @DennisVeilleux-ll8im |
I have a jiffy propane 8 inch Nice but much heavier than these electric Love mine but might get a 4 inch for a a drill for panfish and thinner ice Nice review My jiffy will likely still be going strong by the time I'm dead so not sure if I'll ever replace with another 8 or 10 inch set up Nice review and editing man Comment from : @nkapiariesjeffbeezos796 |
its awesome when you talk about Aaron, can feel the love!! WOOOOO Comment from : @wooooofishing |
I've had issues with drilling past 45" with electric, when my strikemaster 10" gas power will do that for days! Comment from : @zachmaurer3657 |
What a great review! I’d say the electric augers truly have a place for those able to afford Just put the Ion up against 4 other gas models and very impressed! youtube/AZ_vbpFZqTw Comment from : @4seasonpursuits724 |
SOLD getting one asap My old bones can't take punching holes anymore Great video Comment from : @timgreene8432 |
Batteries SUCK when it becomes COLD Why I bought a propane Comment from : @rockymntdan1 |
When I was growing up in the 70's we could only afford a hand auger -- talk about a work out! Glad electric is coming into vogue as was never a fan of gas engines because of the noise, mess, etc Comment from : @daved2403 |
Watching this video before 2022 ice fishing season as a review of this product against the new rapala electric ice auger’s Jay have you seen or heard about Rapala product yet? Possible video comparison plus what’s the Canadian price on the green machine? Can’t wait to get on the ice and watch your upcoming video’s take care, JJ Comment from : @kathywhite4547 |

😳 I ❤ u too😂 Comment from : @fishinmansam |
Jay does the battery lock in on the G2? I got a G1 with the strap and it kinda sucks lately It keeps dying very fast when we go fishing Like drill 7-9 holes as soon as we arrive and it slows right down And the battery indicator shows its full charge But I almost wonder if its gotta do with the strap maybe not holding the battery in tight enough? So the G2 I wanna know more about before I decide on it or the strikemaster Thanks for any help you can provide! Comment from : @BrandoLoves2Fish |
I use the 6 inch for stocked trout Super fast and battery hardly notices Came with the 10 inch Works as long as the blades are sharp 5 amp hour battery Back up battery is a 3 amp Handle Bar broke on mine ( at the attachment) Ion replaced the bars Comment from : @giovannibott7242 |
They’re great augers, not sure why they need to be that pricey though, aside from the battery are they that much more expensive to manufacture than gas? I think they’d be cheaper with less moving parts, but unsure I’ve caught lakers and Muskie around 20lbs, and walleyes close to 10lbs with an 8” hole no problem, so 8” would work for everything I do I hope competition brings down the prices, they’d sell more units too:) Comment from : @TheNewMediaoftheDawn |
Here’s the problem with electric augers after a few seasons let’s say you have some malfunctions or whatever and you have some problems with it not working on a full charge battery, would you know how to fix it? No! Gas auger no problem you can fix it because there are a lot of options like carb work or fuel or whatever electric seems good but gas will always outwork it Comment from : @auggieanderson5154 |
As battery technology continues to improve, gas augers will have less and less appeal, however it is going to take years to demonstrate the durability of electric augers Many guys like myself have had a gas auger for decades My el cheapo Strikemaster 2000 was only a couple hundred bucks about 25 years ago, and still runs like a champ I have only had to make one repair to it in all that time: had to change the fuel tank a couple of years ago That is incredible durability from a 25 year old, entry level, gas auger I have no interest in replacing my gas auger with electric, but rather I would like to pick up an electric auger as a complimentary piece of equipment for thinner ice/early season Comment from : @TeamJesusOutdoors |
Striker 4 for a flasher I’d like to see a review on it Comment from : @redneckadventures9122 |
Thanks for creating the content, it's very helpful stuff Have you checked out the Strikemaster 24v? I think several people would be interested in your thoughts on that model especially after using the G2 and the SAM 40v Cheers! Comment from : @urness91 |
thats nuts my buddies electric felt like maybe a single pound lighter than my gas auger Comment from : @northlanderoutdoors8478 |
Is the Gen II battery compatible with the Gen I Auger? Comment from : @robshaffer5729 |
The box says 2000” with the 6amp gen II Comment from : @robshaffer5729 |

My experience with electric auger is a little different I bought a hand crank auger, made an adapter shaft and I use my Dewalt 20v Max drill Works like a champ! I can drill 30 holes at 5-8” thickness off of one 2AH battery Comment from : @blakeb9792 |

Review the new ice adapter for the hummingbird 360 when you can get your hands on one I’m curious if it actually marks fish or is mostly good for structure Comment from : @wiscowalleye7954 |
I have the strike master 8" lite flite on the clam plate I use my 18v ridgid drill and with a 4 amp hr battery and I can get 35 holes on one battery Was the best option for me with having many battery's and drills from doing construction Great vid jay Love the heart for Sam Can't wait for new ice videos with u and Sam Comment from : @derekpiehl85 |
I put the light flite on my strikemaster My back is much happier I also put a k drill on my Eskimo what a difference in performance ,and easier on the body both versions for torque Lite flite is the cheapest Comment from : @peirules154 |

So did you catch any crappies in there? Comment from : @dominicblond9934 |
Respect to you Jay, but my K-Drill/DeWalt 20v Max rang in at just over $300, and weighs 7lbs I have mostly DeWalt tools so I have several batteries, last year I drained 3 batteries and drilled 130 holes Electric augers are still too expensive and heavy imo, I'm a walker so that extra 10-12lbs makes a big difference Also, your Ion has standard blades, so if you wanted to strong holes together I hope you brought a spud lol Comment from : @Nick-dd2xg |
I'm not ready Still watching the leaves change in NY Comment from : @adamsmith8533 |

Thanks for the review man should be helpful for someone in the market Can’t wait for ice season I was on the fence last year about which auger yo get Had the opportunity to try both the ion and strike master Ended up sticking with the ion gen1 10” Not for any particular reason other than it was green😂 because both ran well A rifle rack for a four wheeler works well to hold mine to my sled Comment from : @nt_wicked_bunch2717 |
Whatever you get make sure you bring a hand auger 😂 Comment from : @WetBandits69420 |
Thanks Jay, I have been looking at a new Ice Auger as my ancient Jiffy has about 18 seasons on it Was looking at the propane models but am now seriously leaning to the Electric Auger side Too bad you couldn't do a 10" comparison of the Ion, the Strikemaster and the new Jiffy E6 Lightning 10" I'm waiting for the Fall sales to kick in but in my area they are all around the $80000 to $84000 mark which is almost double a gas version, but given their light weight, no mixing fuel, no storage issues, no starting issues I can justify the extra outlay of cash The only real question is the durability of the machines My old Jiffy owes me nothing and has been a faithful companion for almost two decades,I guess we'll see what this new generation can do!! Thanks again, and keep that fantastic looking content coming!!! Comment from : @canucklehead0 |
I was literally comparing augers before I saw this pop up; spooky stuff, man! Comment from : @LaegreidOutdoors |
Wait you have ice on the water already? That’s incredible Comment from : @andydavis9816 |
My buddy who’s family owns a bait shop sell these electric augers, there cool but I can afford these since I’m a broke college kid, luckily my dad moved to Georgia so he gave me his old gas auger from probably the early 90s? It’s got its problems but works for me, what it really needs is new blades, the cool thing is I can fit all my ice fishing gear in the back of my college car and once classes are done for the week I just head right to the lakes! Comment from : @spondal1 |
I live a 3 hour drive away and am surprised how much ice you have already lol, we have nonebrbrI used to have a 10" Jiffy STX that was good to me for several years until on day the gas tank sprung a leak from the grommet holding the fuel intake It wouldn't prime/start and gas leaked all over the ice I said never again and that day drove to Fort Francis and bought a new Ion From Canadian Tire Extremely satisfied with it! Never going back to gas power, not for anything on the ice anyway Comment from : @differentfins |
Is there a ten inch bit yet? Comment from : @larsohara1506 |
