Music notation sucks It just does Too much emphasis on it vs actually playing and feeling the music, and understanding theory as it relates to your instrument Many are so put off by it, that they quit early on Sad Printed music has its place to preserve songs on paper, and for learning the song, but it’s just used as a gatekeeper, much in the same way as the college weed out class

What you say about the key signature is fine for the key of G, but the keys of F# & B both have 5 sharps So one can't just look at the key signature and immediately know which key they're playing in

I remember as a teen being a runner-up in a silver band competition for playing Menuet in G (also played the acoustic guitar) 30 years on, I have completely forgotten how to read sheet music 😭 Time to re-learn it for the piano, so thanks for the refresher!

Great refresher brbrI thought clefs had time to explain F, G, C clefs and how these notes are indicated by each clefs I find this easier than remembering the lowest space note

In half German half English, I found an easy way to extend past the FACE lines It's kinda dumb, but it works for me In reverse order:brbrD (as)brFACEbrG (esicht)brH (eisst yes, we use H instead of what all normal people use, lol)brD (as face gesicht repeats) and it just translates "face" to German language over and over: "Das Face Gesicht Heisst Das Face Gesicht heisst Das Face Gesicht" → "The Face Face Is called The Face Face Is called The Face Face" brbrThanks for always putting so much emphasis on the whole "keep reading the sheets" thing, because it's just so easy not to, especially when you're just co-learning with the daughter who gets proper lessons While I have no obligation to learn and "deliver", it's good to hear things like that to avoid learning it wrong and having to unlearn later

Do you have any suggestions about books to get, I am around grade 3-5 in piano I sight read in a brass band but that's just one line so I can sight read one line very easily but the more than one part can cause some issues so appreciate this video Just a lot of the books my dad has are Grade 7-9 things that are really hard or just not in my skill range yet I want to practice sight reading on slightly easier pieces than that So wondering if you have any suggestions? thank you
