To the flight school caller I would bite the bullet and start flight school sooner than later The faster you get into the industry the faster you rank up and make more money It takes about 5 years to go from a regional airline to a major airline And if you work for 5 years to get money for flight school, you're 5 years behind your peers My 2 cents

I have to say I’m disappointed Ken! I enjoy the Ramsey show quite a bit and listen daily I enjoy your no nonsense approach to many aspects of life But your comment on Freon and “all that environmental crap that we will find out in 10 years is all Ok” is misguided This comment reminds me a lot of some of your callers that believe if they just keep their head in the sand about their money their debt will disappear and take care of itself

I literally just replaced my ac for the same reason and yes he prob has R22 which is an ungodly amount of money to pay for a recharge that’s prob not gonna last anyway Paid 13k for a 5 ton system So 18k is prob close

2020, right before prices raised, we spent $6,700 for a 1238 sq ft lowest model for our hvac Previous one was 26 yrs old and nothing could save it, we had tried We had 4 quotes and no one came in under $10,000 We were praying hard, sent our tithe check in the mail and literally the moment I let go of it I received an email One guy found a lower model to get us that price 😅 I don’t know the size of this guys house, but I feel that $18,000 isn’t far off Especially if he’s going to a “good” unit and up We went with “ok” which was hard because we had the top level experience with our older one lol

We replaced our 25 yr/o hvac system 5 years ago It cost $12,000 We were able to cash flow it, but $18k now is not unrealistic

HVAC situation man just take out the loan lol or take a personal loan and pay it off ASAP brbrIf you called in with 18k in debt on your home or a loan they would give you same advice just to pay it off asap You’re not at risk losing your house with 350k equity with no other debt

Logan with the HVAC - absolutely on target with the cost for the old systems that use Freon that is no longer able to be used We just had this same scenario in our older home The older Freon refrigerant R-22 was banned in the US in 2020 It's no longer produced, and it's becoming more expensive to purchase R-410A, also known as Puron, is the standard replacement for Freon Freon supplies are decreasing and prices are increasing Air conditioners that use Freon are nearing the end of their lifespan Get a home equity loan and replace the whole system If you don't, it will be one thing after the other And pay off the loan quickly If a mortgage is ok (and the RS gods do permit that), a home equity loan is also ok - same financial bucket Protect your largest investment b/c the cost can be recouped when or if you move This is NOT the same category as buying a depreciating asset like a truck or other loans like student loans and credit cards

Logan, there is no “illegal” refrigerant Your HVAC contractor is a liar The price for equipment is $4k - $6k for 1 system No way in hell is a residential system install worth $18,00000 If you pay that without a 2nd bid you’re a fool brbrIf it’s r22 they have drop in replacement refrigerant, 410a is still being installed Jade asked if you did your due diligence and you clearly have not You’re about to be royally screwed , get some vasoline
