Apologies for the confusion around the Gilt shown in the HL section This isn't actually a Gilt but a Strip instead and is subject to tax however the principle applied in the calculations are still appropriate to Gilts that you buy at a discount No CGT applies Comment from : @carlrobertsonmoney |

There should be policies against paying taxes on social security, double taxation is illegal and that is exactly what is happening SS recipients have already paid taxes on the wages when they were working and now when retirees desperately need this income the most to live the government gives them the shaft! Retirement may become a problem for Americans Comment from : @tonysilke |

On the Self-Assessment Tax Return form under the section 'Tailor your return', Page 2 of 3 there is a question: ''Did you receive any interest, for example, from UK banks, UK building societies, UK unit trusts ( or untaxed foreign interest up to £ 1000)? YES or NO? brIf you have a regular savings account ( NOT an ISA account ) you will always earn some interest no matter how much it will be Does that mean that I need to answer the question above 'YES' even if I earn interest below the £1000 threshold ( the personal savings allowance for basic taxpayers)? And if ‘yes’,do I just put the number of the interest and if it’s below £1000 I automatically don’t pay and if above £1000 how it will be calculcukated?I would be really grateful if someone could clarify this for me Thank you Comment from : @miraflorova8487 |

I personally don't bother with a pension anymore My workplace pension has a limit of between £3-4k a year before I have to pay tax on what I'm putting away which is completely unfairbrbrNot only that, but my pension literally wouldn't allow me to retire and there's no guarantee that the state pension would be there in the futurebrbrI'm personally investing my money into a S&S ISA I've only just started at the age of 30, but with what I'm putting in, I could retire before I hit 60 with the estimated returnsbrbrI also have other investments which whilst quite risky, if the economy is going to change massively over the next few years, I'll be in for a huge pay day and I'll be set for life I'll have no choice but to pay income tax on it, but that won't matter Comment from : @_--____--______--___ |
