Good ideas I might use my current laptop as a portable/smart TV as well, whenever I decide to upgrade We have a Chromecast, but sometimes subtitles will go out of sync when streaming to it, which drives me crazy So I often connect my laptop to the TV via HDMI instead I wish laptop manufacturers would make laptops more repairable/upgradeable though If I could add more RAM to my current laptop (8 GB of soldered RAM) I could probably keep using it as my primary laptop for longer

I have four, right now: All HPs, a Probook 430 G2, Probook 450 G1, and two 1610p's I've been trying out different distros, and right now, the 450 G1 has Debian, the 430 G2, MX, and one of the 1610p's, AntiX The remaining 1610p doesn't have an OSI'm pondering over what I want to install All of these were around $100 or less (one of the 1610p" was $25), though the final costs were more, with SSDs, replacement batteries, and RAM upgrades They all do well on the Internet The 450 G1 has the latest release of Debian, and runs like a dream! Gaming? I LOVE killing "Pig-Cops" in "Duke Nukem"! (DosBox required)

I fixed up my old Dell Inspiron 1531 I3, it's running Windows 10, 8GB ram and 1TB SSD I had no clue what I was doing, still have no clue what I'm doing, but this is my first laptop repair, next I may see a out booting back up my old Compaq

I'm probably getting a new laptop this year to replace my absolutely battered up, like "fell way more times than i'd admit, survived three wars" Lenovo Yoga 520ikb(2017) which i wanna use as said lightweight type machine in da future For now i'm just planning on recyling the parts of the Asus and Toshiba(also a broken Vaio) for personal projects like external screen, headphones, external webcam n stuff, but should i just not break em down?

I use a ThinkPad t430 I got for 50 bucks on eBay, a new battery, charger, and Linux makes it my daily driver It helps me not get distracted by gaming, and lets me get classes done for when I go back to university

I mean the intake and exhaust fans on laptop can be reused for the intake you can either use it as an extra intake fan for your other laptop and for exhaust fan you can use it as a vacuum fan to suck out hot air

i still use my thinkpad x240 5 keys are broken, and especially the letter g is very annoying not to have, but it still works after about a decade of occasional use, and i could maybe have 35 euros for it on the used market battery is still good for 90 minutes

I was scraping old tech from around the house as my mom instilled upon my sis and i that we are to never throw stuff away that WAS worth a pretty penny I now own 2 aspire 1 acer laptops I'll be using one as an actual oldschool laptop to use at work for fun, since its smaller and cheaper than my nitro 5 laptop, and the other will be turned into a mini desktop computer/video game emulation machine/smart tv deal

I have an old HP laptop that only had like 64 gigs of storage so when Windows 10 did an update My daughter should no longer use it I installed Linux on it and I use it to the stream TV and as my computer that I take with me when I go on vacation or out because I don't care if I lose it I didn't pay anything for it It's not going to do anything super fast but it gets the job done

i got a chromebook for $35 i installed lubuntu on it and use it with retro arch to play emulators plays up to gamecube brit only has 16gb ssd and 4gb ddr3 ram so i use a 128gb sd card with it for my roms

So my daily driver is a little Dell Inspiron 3180 (A6 dual core/R5 Graphics, 4gb ram, 32gb SSD) and i run it with a cut-down version of Windows 10 i made in MSMG Tools to strip it of a lot that it wont use like Xbox Game Bar etc It's almost like an Edgebook because i have so many things installed 'as an app' with Edge on it, from Messenger to Youtube etc and the relevant extensions needed with each It's also got a dedicated 64gn MicroSD for extra storage like games and ive cut 1080p video on it in Vegas because the A6 has a decent lil GPU I also have an old HP Omni All in one i use in the bedroom for a sorta HTPC TV because it's 20 inches isn't bad when its being viewed at less than 15 ft away like in the bed It's running Linux Lite with a duplicate cut down version of Win10 as the Omni is essentially a 13 year old laptop but as an All In One (and it can run older abandonware games on it, so yay lol) The Missus has an older Inspire X laptop but its only used really for Discord calls as she has not bothered to use it since she got herself a nice lil Acer Chromebook 2 in 1 For D&D i use a couple of older tablets ive came across from tech dumps friends do on me - one is a Proscan 9" (discount store brand) ANdroid 5 tablet, wired in a new momentary switch in place of its old busted wake button, but it runs the 5th Edition Character Sheet app quite nicely, and Rocket browser for quick reference, and i also have an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 101" tablet, with bluetooth for a nice keyboard and WPS Office for any game notes i have (used to use a bluetooth mouse with it as well but it seems like its not working now) i keep a lot of old tech around, but only if its of use to me now, and pass it along to others it may come of use to Great video, i love it!! I have a 2014 Lenovo laptop with a Celeron 2957U, 4GB of RAM and a 240GB SSD (originally had a 500GB HDD) from my mom after the old HDD broke and she got a new HP Laptop, it currently has the latest Windows 11 23H2 (now I put back 10 again) but originally had Windows 81 and over it's livespan it also ran Windows 10, 7 and 11 22H2brand now I also have a 2012 Asus Netbook from a cousin with a AMD C-60 APU, 2GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD currently running Windows 7 (originally had 80, but was already upgraded to 10 when I got it, but it runs better on 7)brboth are currently used for Windows experiments mainlybrI also have a ThinkPad T40 from a friend but it's HDD died

I still use an old Asus laptop from 2015 with an AMD E1 for school only ! Just tiping my lesson and using google Chrome, with an SSD and a dual boot Windows 81/Linux Mint it's pretty snappy ! It's a bad configuration (4Go of ram and a 1GHz Dual core CPU) but it's still run fine

(whenever I'll need a replacement)

Great seeing actual use cases for these old computers, far too often do people in videos throw out ideas they know they'll never use personally Before moving I got quite a bit of use out of my 867mhz Titanium PowerBook as a dedicated jukebox, running through my itunes library with the visualizer in full screen It worked great, at least until I had to let it be for a bit to cool down

My go to travel laptop is a Dell Latitude E7440 with the touch screen Has 16gb ram and upgraded wifi 6 Has decent battery life and good standby, it's usually good to go even if I don't touch it for a week or two I chose it more over my mid 2012 13" mbp for pretty just the touchscreen Great for browsing on the couch since I can just use the screen to scroll instead of the track pad It also seems to run windows 10 better than the mbp running Monterey
