So, is my understanding correct: this doesn’t become an issue until you send from an address? If you’re continuously receiving into one wallet when taking your BTC off of an exchange you are safe from this potential issue until you were ever to send BTC from that same wallet? If your only transactions are receiving you’re fine?

One thing you haven't mentioned here is that each subsequent spend from the same address makes the corresponding private key easier and easier to brute force as more and more info gets revealed each spendbrbrThat's actually the primary reason you don't want to reuse addresses, though the rate at which private key is made easier to brute force depends on the wallet software creating the TX Some addresses have been reused thousands of times without becoming compromised, other addresses have been reused < 10 times and that was enough

This idea sounds good in theory, but using the same familiar address all the time makes it easier to manually check addresses for mistakes (typos, clipboard-manipulating malware, etc) That the privacy/security concern that this video mentioned and the UX/security issue that I mentioned exist just means that the bitcoin address UX has room to improve

Hi Matthew, thanks for all you do Quick question: if I use a bitcoin wallet like BlueWallet, and I spend part of a UTXO, one output is to the person that I’m paying and another goes into a change address (which is different from the original sender address) Would the bitcoin in the new change address still be susceptible to the potential quantum attack that you highlighted for reused addresses? (The change address is brand new and generated by the wallet software, so is only used once ie not reused)

As a long time EVM user, having a different receiving address in BTC confused me at first Doing some research, I realized it's better privacy wise I'm guessing the sending address also changes, is that right? I've never used my hardware wallet to send out yet, just stacking sats I've also only used my hardware wallet to generate the other receiving address How safe is the software on a computer which is connected to the internet when it generates other receiving address? I'm thinking there is a possibility that the Sparrow software on the computer could get compromised and would generate a fake receiving address which is not yours Would that be possible?

so for merchant use, it would be burdensome to have to create a fresh address every transaction would it be useful to say, put an exchange address out for the counter to use with customers and just send it to your cold/hot wallet every day/week when you reconcile the receipts? wouldn't that shield the end wallet address and still not leave a lot on an exchange?
