That’s a 61 I’d buy in a heartbeat (looks better than some PL’s I’ve seen graded 2-3 points higher) Usually PL/DMPL’s don’t look to good in 61’s, 62’s and depending on who’s grading that day 63’s That coin has everything I look for It would be nice to know what cleaning took place according to PCGS $1,400+ she’s getting heavier by the day and a year older to boot Put a video up of it on your eBay listing Comment from : Sonny Gunz |
That’s a beauty marked cleaned You definitely got your $1000 worth Comment from : Mart Hyatt |
PCGS calling that cleaned is ridiculous They should have to give a explanation of why they think that if they want to get paid I'd call in a charge back for failure to provide the advertised service Comment from : Ok, Groomer |
Looks like a 62 Scarface Comment from : Liquid Electrum cc |

Looks like a Diver Down flag They should call it a VAM Halen! 🤣 Comment from : Steve Boyd |
Clearly, "video grading" is not optimal I was guessing for 62 and never saw evidence of cleaning 🤷♂️ Comment from : Mad Femur Fast |
Nice coin, I think it is a 62 PL Comment from : Jamie Houdeshell |
Very nice coin like cc Morgans am starting to get into them hopefully on my next purchase will be a 1890cc or a 1878 cc Comment from : B3TO D2024 |
Ben you really paid that much for a cleaned graded coin? I wish my LCS would pay that much for a cleaned coin in a holder Comment from : Chai Charin |
That’s a nice one! Comment from : asheland |
Probably the big cheek hit makes it 61 along with all the smaller marks Comment from : rapidtransit340 |
Before I saw the grade I was betting on an MS 63 PL Comment from : Clinlabsci |
61 is awful The cheek is a 64 or low 65 It looks like they graded hard on the marks in the fields, even though it's prooflike This is an instance where the grading companies need to make notes describing how it makes the grade and why it's not higher or lower, depending on the coin This has to be the best looking 61PL ever graded! Comment from : UpsideDownCat |
I was thinking MS63 PL Fooled me but a nice CC regardless Comment from : Pocket Change Inspector |
I like it At least it straight graded Comment from : Spokane Silver Stacker |
Really Ben, you have the patience of Job when it comes to these 3rd party graders Maybe you just bury the angst well It's a great coin don't see how someone figured it was "cleaned" when that would be obvious on a mirror surface and, hey, it's not there! Someone had a questionable breakfast burrito at PCGS that morning Comment from : Jeff Larkin |
I saw it as a 62-63 PL Comment from : Kevin Hoock |
ngc say's 490 on this coin Comment from : MultiHaystack |
Outstanding! 👍 Comment from : Ontario100 |
That coin would get a green bean Comment from : Silvadel Shaladin |
A beautiful coin! I wish ngc and pcgs would start specifying what they see as cleaning on each particular coin Would make it much easier for all of us Comment from : Jack Stehlik |
That coin looks much nicer than a MS 61 PL Comment from : Lester Coons |
Nice coin; too nice for my collection and I think you won this one Comment from : Silver Drill Pickle |
Beautiful coin! I’m learning a lot from you Thank you! Comment from : T the Silver Stacker |
Can they put a star designation after the PL? Why isn't that a 63? What cleaning? What's the pop? It's a gem Comment from : JimM |
I thought it was a pl63 Comment from : tom talley |
That’s awesome , goes to show that you really know your stuff 👍 Comment from : Kayne Fryday |
What am I missing??Ms 61 pl is $550 but looks like they sell around $450-500 You paid $1050 in the cleaned PCGS Ok I just stopped and look up DMPL Ms 62 dmpl (which is what it looks like) is $1050 I understand The pl instead of dmpl is what robbed you Great stuff brother I really enjoy your content Comment from : TDP II P |
I'm happy for you, but that upgrade is absolutely ridiculous and should never happen I hope you try to get it CAC'ed to complete the absurdity Comment from : Hooya2007 |
A success! Somewhat anyways brMy grade was Ms62 with a strong Pl Comment from : Tylonn Platinum 3rd Coins |
Oh my, thought that coin very least a 63 , and PCGS had it Cleaned 🤔 , that's one of the reasons I quit on numismatics Thank you for what you do 🙂 Comment from : Justin M |
I think it is fairly graded in that NGC holder You can split hairs but MS61PL is not a bad grade Those scuff don't look like cleaning to me, but I can see why they would holder it details Comment from : jppagetoo |
We see these coins so often that we forgot that the coin is 144 years old To try to put it into perspective, Rutherford B Hayes was president, enwikipediaorg/wiki/1878_in_the_United_States Comment from : Ryan Bartig |
PCGS and their cleaned, argh! Comment from : Bill Sinclair |
Was thinking 62-63 Comment from : CYBYZ |

MS61 PL for this coin has listed price of $550 on PCGS and $490 on NGC I know you paid $1050 for it, but you listed it for $1299, more than 63+ money? Comment from : James Goss |
It looked better than a 61 Comment from : Paul Begansky |
I hate when people crack out coins it screws with the pop numbers Comment from : johnny b |
It's really hard to judge a coin's reflective surface because of the plastic Often I can't judge where one stops and the other startsbrbrWhat on earth did PCGS see on this coin that would give it a Details - Cleaning grade??? Comment from : James Goss |
