A bit late I know, but as a resident with a UK account, I have recently found it cheaper to pay almost everything by card No bank withdrawal fees of approx 7 so you get charged the exchange date of the day without fees Much better value and most shops/businesses are happy to swipe a card, meaning cash is reserved for tipping or small purchases

It's hard to avoid exchanging money at the airport since I have to pay for transportation as soon as arrival There was no public transportation in the new airport in June 2019, only private car so need to pay lira BTW, any new updates on public transportation from the new airport this year?

Look for a TEB cash machine I'm not 100 sure however to the best of my knowledge they don't charge to withdraw money Only your bank will charge the 3* comission I think

DenizBank used to be my old favourite for cash withdrawals, but this summer they started charging! Quite substantial fees as well! I believe I ended up using the HSBC in Hisaronu who didnt charge for withdrawing money on my Halifax Clarity Credit Card which is a 'specialist overseas' card
