Note: Carna4 is relatively low protein for a carnivore So, like all kibbles, it is carb loaded and not species appropriate I have three bags of Carni4 in my emergency stash in case there is another plandemic or such But, I would only serve this kibble mixed with pure, human grade meat (assuming that during an emergency I had access to such) It seems to be made of human grade ingredients with a focus on natural nutrition vs synthetic vitamins and that is all well and good but it still remains the case that dogs, carnivores did not evolve to eat so much carb and did not evolve to eat sprouted grain seeds that Carnivore likes to promote It is propaganda and maybe they should stop pushing it as if it was sound, evolutionary biology It's filler FACT Is Carna4 better than other kibbles because of their higher quality starting ingredients and because it is baked instead of heated to the point of cross-linking of peptides? Yes But, at the end of the day, Carna4 is a high carb kibble and not a healthy, species appropriate diet for dogs to be fed day in and day out Is it suitable to be fed intermittently in rotation with fresh foods? yes, but please don't think this expensive, convenience kibble is a miracle Comment from : Treasure Trovel

I became suspect of Fromm when an employee at Pet Food Express (a good reputation chain in Northern CA) told me that it was great that Fromm uses Safflower (or maybe it was sunflower oil) instead of chicken fat (like most brands of kibble) because chicken fat can be contaminated I informed him that seed oils are not species appropriate and that the seed oil was actually a bad thing in pet food He looked at me dazed Moral of the story is that there really is no great kibble when compared to fresh, human grade, meat heavy foods for carnivores Comment from : Treasure Trovel

Thanks for the great information We just got back from our first vet visit - adopted Willow a week ago I was shocked when the vet advised not to feed 'grain free' food, but Purina was just great Not my first dog 20 years ago, on the advice of a friend who bred Goldens, I switched from Purina Pro to Wellness, and health improved dramatically I switched the cat's food to Wellness from Purina, and she stopped throwing up for the first time ever I see your point about Wellness, tho I had been feeding my last dog the Wellness Raw Rev, which was freeze dried, and I thought it was all meat I see now it's not and has various legumes Will take your advice and switch to one of your recommendations Comment from : Pesti Mom

Some of the give-aways that this is "feed grade" (not fit for human consumption ingredients) is the menadione complex (not allowed in human foods because of the toxicity noted in rodent studies) and the sodium selenite form of selenium (apparently that has a very narrow safety range of concentration compared to natural forms of selenium that mammals have evolved to handle) and the sulfate form of the minerals (which are unnatural forms that are thought to take a toll on the body/metabolism as they are not absorbed as well on the one hand but on the other hand can build up and cause a toxicity as they are not secreted efficiently like the protein chelated forms found in meat) brRachel, I have been following your channel for a few years and it just gets better and better Thanks for all the research and explaining you do to promote the health of pet dogs Comment from : Treasure Trovel
