If you strip away the network identifier and the check digit that does leave behind just over a billion card numbers but that would be a billlion card number for each network That'll be many billions of card number combinations available Also, past numbers no longer in use could be reissued by changing the security code associated with the card number

Yeah, but there are more than 16 digits - they always ask for the expiration date, and usually also ask for the cvv number, and sometimes the zipcode on the account

I have a spreadsheet with formulas to validate the check digit I also didn’t think about the possibility of running out of numbers until now I have about 20 virtual card numbers linked to my physical card Each is used for a different on line retailer If one of those retailers has a data breach, I only need to terminate that single virtual card I don’t have to replace or change card numbers at every other shop or subscription service
