I don't understand this artificial scarcity of Bitcoin? Why aren't other currencies coming out with the same model as Bitcoin along the same lines using the the same white paper and also restricted to 21M or less coins? Why would the worldwide group of miners stop mining once all the 21M bitcoins are minted? wouldn't they just start minting for another Bitcoin clone?

George,brright nowafter the halving, it is not profitable to mine bitcoin the assumption that miners are going to continue to mine without a reasonable profit is unrealistic and is just one of the achilles heels of bitcoin imho this is why i am skeptical of long term success there are a lot of factors that have been taken for granted by the creatorsenergy availability, internet access, and the aforementioned, compensationlarge holes in the design again, imho catastrophic unforeseen world event, man made or organic,(such as the solar flare of 1859) with minuscule compensation to the miners removes the incentive to mine without minersthere is no "block chain" the entire premise is based on bitcoin valueagain imho while i do see the value as an investor/speculator/traderi do not see the value as a holder or user, it is not set up to be used without the luxury of electronic technology our assumption that electricity, electronics, and the internet will always be widely available and inexpensive is naive
