Questions, critical thinking, and creativity should definitely be encouraged, but I think some teachers already do encourage it, at least to an extent

I’m autistic and because of that I don’t understand social norms and have difficulty understanding social cues I always asked questions even when the teachers were not happy about it (because i couldn’t tell they were unhappy for the most part) Outside of school I like to do tons of research on physiology, biology, animals and their behaviors, society, art, creativity, history and when I do I feel so full of life and purpose But I feel so angry with school and their systems because it takes away passion and it feels like I learn more on my own without school than with school I like learning but not at school I don’t learn anything at school, it’s all forgotten after the final test because it was never important to me to remember or learn I’ve lost motivation in school making me barely passing just because it’s required to live I could’ve maybe been a zoologist but now I won’t be because school isn’t worth it to me So I’ll settle with working on a ranch Maybe I can study the sheep I tend to

People really do forget just how important fun hands-on learning is When my school did our segment on Egyptian history and mythology, i learned SO much from that segment because of the stuff we did We made sarcophaguses out of pizza boxes and made mummies out of dried up oranges, with little canopic jars for the orange "insides" We looked at diagrams and artifact photos and got to design our own Egyptian god I would've never gotten so interested in Egyptian history if we just sat and read a textbook about it

I started working at Kumon a few months ago and have really been struggling with the culture of obedience, use of external prizes, and supremacy of grades in determining progress Thank you so much for giving me the language to understand what I've been subconsciously fighting, for validating the feelings of stress, hopelessness, and loss of motivation that I labeled as an overreaction Our academic institutions need to nurture students instead of punishing them I hope that everyone involved in the education system - students, parents, teachers - will come to recognize the flaws you've pointed out in this video and work together to build something better

I am a child I won't go to collage for another 8 years But, i have a steady plan for each job, i know what i want to be, and i know how i will achieve that goal, but it seems unrealistic if i be a good teacher who doesn't judge people People will feel judged anyways, if your nice or rude, it doesn't matter, you can't control how people feel

in the book "Schooling in Capitalist America" by Herbert Gintis and Samuel Bowles, it recognizes how capitalism requires obedient workers who will follow the orders of their supervisors willingly capitalism in turn will use education in order to breed this obedient workforce all your suggestions fundamentally go against this, giving power to students teaches them that they should have power at their workplace i love this video, but i think this is a very, very important thing to recognize

One way I have thought about this is likebrbrA good teacher is like a good dungeon master, they have a story they want to tell but allow their players to find their way along it The players are the ones who lead the story and they chose how it goes and the DM is a guide to the story and to keep them on track

What the professor explains as a myth is not accurate Whether called a myth or theory, grades and motivation (early in life), promotes character, responsibility, determination, commitment (later in life) Grades are merely a tool and a measure for determining and understanding the intelligence of said individual But grades don’t define the individual intellect They’re simply a tool so as to help teachers and parents understand the drive for success (motivation) Since we are all different, intelligence is diverse Some students are good at math while others struggle understanding it But the same struggling students are good at art, the math students struggle Therefore grades are subjective depending on the subject matter

Colleges look at the difficulty level of classes Do people think it's ok to take easy classes for the A? They care if you're in regular HS, or doing IB testing, in AP and IHS with Spanish Immersion and extra curriculars Or maybe that was when I was in school brHonestly I was one of those who both had a pretty good school and thrived in that environment I'm perplexed to hear about people being demotivated or just reading the grades and not the comments I get that I'm the exception But I also can't wrap my head around not wanting to do your best and continue challenging yourself I love reading and learning I don't want to go back to school, but I mostly liked it when I was there

As a high schooler who has to go to therapy because of crippling perfectionism, which lead to my crippling anxiety Today I will be getting my teachers signature to remove one of those AP classes I squeezed in to quit dance My country lately raised the exam passing mark from 16 points minimum, to 40 points minimum to pass It's really horrible and we don't even have books to study from
