Very detailed in-depth explanation! I don't typically collect most types of modern coins - but I do get them in sometimes I am always shocked whenever I guess at a probable grade, and a grading company somehow actually agrees with me The Red Book is a good general guide for a rough estimate only Online guides are all over the map for more subtle differences Comment from : @mojavegold- |

Absolutely beautiful video Daniel! I truly appreciate the effort you made to produce different grades and conditions to ascertain what grade your wheat cent is I bought a 1909S VDB in VF 20 in a green holder I had an ANA book on grading and one of the characteristics of a VF 20 is the evidence of cheek separation on the cheekbone I mean it didn't look like there was full separation, there was barely enough to make the technical grade I learned a lot from that book and wanted to ask you sir how much weight you place on that book ANA grading standards Comment from : @rolandocastaneda4429 |
Very informative video Thanks for sharing, Daniel ! 👍 Comment from : @ClanMacFarland71 |

Since I became the owner of a large number of coins from my late uncle, I became interested in numismatics In my coin collection, which was stored in an ordinary tea tin, I found 15 American coins, including 7 one-cent coins with Lincoln's likeness Unfortunately, 3 of them were in such terrible condition that I had to treat them with a special coin liquid, getting rid of the efflorescence and removing the patina at the same time They were minted at different mints in 1944, 51, 67, 68, 73, 83, 91 Since I am not familiar with American coins, I started looking for information and quickly came to the conclusion that it is better to listen to lectures of those who know on YouTube, and that's how I came across your programs, among others I do not have high hopes that there is a treasure among them The only interesting one of these seven is the one from the 1951 vintage This is the one of the three washed with a stronger agent than the usual gray soap and water You can see that it was in circulation, but I noticed in passing that it was a scarce coin and at first glance it looked badly worn To my surprise, this coin very quickly began to cover itself with a healthy patina, while the other two did not After just one year of this treatment, it is already acquiring a nice bronze Comment from : @zorzyk6790 |
I find a lot of them metal detecting, not worth grading, a lot of times the rim is worn down, good video I found a large cent 1790,; totally flat, Liberty Cap I weighed and measured but no clue on date Comment from : @Demy1970 |
I have a 1909-s VDB with some slight corrosion around the edges Should I clean it or leave the corrosion on? Either way, will it corrode even more if I leave it that way I really need to know Comment from : @Chilliam13 |

Pretty discouraging again, the grading companies control the industry Until all grading companies are held in the same regard and of the same value I SIMPLY DONT BELIEVE IN A GRADING SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS GRADING COMPANIES TO LITERALLLY CONTROL THE INDUSTRY AND PRICING DENY THAT IF YOU WILL, BUT I SEE IT! Comment from : @keithsparling5537 |
Great video it helps us polish up our grading skills Comment from : @donaldpfeffer8231 |
As a hobby numismatist I only grade my coins to the letter I do not grade to the number BUT, I also do not have any higher value coins (my best is a 1945 micro S dime in AU) That is what the grading companies job is, to grade it to the number Great information Daneil Thanks Comment from : @wandlbaker |
Thank you Danial , good visual aid Still learning I appreciate your time and effort Comment from : @michaelshields5921 |
Nice comparison It would be really nice to have a video just showing the grades, one picture/grade per second Comment from : @ExtraSqueaky |
Excellent lesson here! I find the drawings in Brown and Dunn along with those found in the old ANA books to be easier than the photo grades for me Thank you for the content! Comment from : @chadbenner6316 |
Great instruction on grading Comment from : @paulbegansky5650 |
When grading the higher end coins, I reckon much of it comes down to overall eye appeal It's so so subjective and it's why aesthetics of the specimen overall play a big part on those "slider" type coins So many times I got Morgans returned at a AU58 and its just like getting kicked in the groin lol Sorta I just won't send a coin in unless it's in MS condition, barring it being a coin of true significance like The 09 vdb S, 69 S DDO etc Great video, grading coins is not easy esp in the MS tier I know the grading companies just do not have the time, resources to triangulate in their grading process meaning that 3 people grade the coin, each not knowing others opinion Take the three grades and a consensus could be determined rather a single perspective, would be one way for a better, more objective and fair result🤷🙏🕉️ Comment from : @carlcaruso33 |
Thanks Sir Comment from : @Paramjitnumismatic |
