got one of these @ Wal-Mart a couple years back, there's a newer version now I don't carry mine much as a 3 blade stockman pocket knife serves my tasks better This is good & compact to store in a small Maxpediton type pack

The new retaining screws are made so a penny can be used to change the blade I bought my EAB so I don't have to ruin my Manix 2 cutting cardboard at work

I'll stick with the old tried and true Stanley! Zippo is still the top of the line and so is Stanley Besides it fits my everything just right Has extra blades, has the grip, You can't cut boxes all day long with that pretty little toy

In my opinion, this is a bad design because of the difficulty of changing the blade and the lack of on board blade storage People who use these cutters a lot know that the two main complains about cutters are what I just mentioned I have used tons of these cutters over the years trying to find the best one and so far, I would say the Milwaukee fast back 2, not the first one, is the best so far The fastback 1 lacked blade storage but the 2 has blade storage Unfortunately the 2 can only store one extra blade

I've had one of these for a long time- resides in my FANNY PACK… yeah, deal with it I agree the thumb stud is a good idea, but disagree that it should be anything BUT a slot head I might not have a hex on me in the field, but I will have something flat to get the screw out and turn the blade around Best lightweight, lo-pro utility knife available After all these years, I think I will go get another one Nutn review strikes again!

I own a very fine Gerber folding lock-blade knife that I've carried everyday for ten years, it's still solid in every regard and keeps an edge very well Because my Gerber has been such a good knife I'll purchase one of these soon

Try cutting shingles for 8-10 hours a day with a knife that small and having to change blades 4-5 times a day without a quick release uses up to much time

I've been carrying an EAB for years I call it my "fearless" knife It's fearless because unlike my more expensive blades - I'm not afraid to completely destroy the blade It's so small, I can afford to carry it all the time - even on airplanes (blade removed) I've given them as gifts, and own 5 of them myself - just in case I lose one At $10, you can't lose BTW, I use Irwin bi-metal blades in mine too

That Gerber is junk I broke 1 in about a month get the Dewalt folder about $20 at Home Depot works great edc mine every day for over a year at work I throw it in my tool belt and use it for all kinds of things carry it around in my pocket not at work holds extra blades in handle also

This is garbage It is too small to be comfortable in the hand for heavy duty cutting I go though 10-15 blades a day at my work and that screw is a pain when you need to change that much blades daily This knife doesn't have a storage for additional blades Just a useless piece of metal I use dewalt folding knife and i love it

I actually have a Sheffield that I like way better Have had it for years and the clasp style blade retention system is solid and has no play like the quick release, but is much, much faster and easier to change than this one It also has a thumb peg I find this one too small to get a firm comfortable grip with The Sheffield is perfect Not knocking Gerber by any means, very good knife company, but IMO they got bested on this one

I use this blade as part of my 3 blade system The light weight and compactness of this design allow me to carry a Cold Steel AK-47 and a Leatherman Charge or Juice S2 I have never needed a blade larger than a utility blade for daily tasks, and the Charge blade can act as a EDC blade if need be I do enjoy sharpening knives, but it is nice to know I don't have to worry about cutting cardboard or carpet with my EDC Great blade and have gifted it several times - a win

Dangerous knife if you ask me I dropped from the second floor and it popped open after hitting the ground Too much blade exposed Easy to cut yourself if doing any heavy work There's other lock blade style utility knives with full size handles

preety kool I have the same feelings about quick release blades They can be dangerous I use them all day every day I am now using a dewalt quick release and its ok so far My opinion on on the gerbers look is not great for heavy use The entire blade is exposed for no good reason The handle is small Which causes hand fatigue The stanard receesed screw which you mentioned and closing it looks sketchy I hope to find the perfect utility knife one day too but i dont think this is it

I'm a fan of the lock back, folding utility knives Sheffield puts one out, and Husky had one before going to the quick release I have never had a blade pull out of a lock back, and it doesn't require a screw driver to release the blade

Unfortunately the screw mechanism is a deal breaker I need one that can be able to exchange blades quickly because what I'm cutting is so highly destructive to the razor blades

Depending on your cutting task this is very limited I'm a loyal Home Depot customer and Nascar fan that can't stand 5 time champ Jimmie Johnson (Mostly, cause I'm a Kyle Bush fan) But, happened to be in Lowe's the other day and came across the Kobalt folding utility with a quick release interchangable blade mechinism that won't fall apart on you It works great 20 years exp as a master carpenter

I bought it for use at work and you can't use it with gloves and need a screwdriver to change out the blades Their is very little surface to hold onto when cutting threw layers of cardboard like in a box for fitness equipment and if it gets wet or covered in oil it is a useless as much as a safety hazard If Gerber went with more gimping on the handle it might be far more useful but at this point Craftsman model 9-48480 and Kobalt item 204093 have it beat

Those stanley blade copies are awful, Especially the plastic ones you can get at poundland, The original stanley blade had no sliding device, That`s something they added a few years ago, And I belive is a production mistake But by far the worst are those plastic snap off types with the slider going right along the side off the handle, I would go as far as to say they shouldn`t be made for sale, Under strain the slider moves, Bloody dangerous! I through mine straight in the bin!

I put some grip tape along the spine, on the clip, in the choil (now I don't feel like I'm going to slip and slice my finger off!) and a tab on the front for easy one-handed use I agree that it would have been pretty easy for them to raise the screw for use as a thumb stud, I think the concern was that it would snag on your pocket a lot that way, but anyway, the grip tape tab works excellent for one-handed deployment, and certainly the rest of the tape in my palm just locks t right into my hand

I have been using this blade for years the only problem I had is that I would clip onto my pocket and while working would get knocked out and lost, so I had to buy a few of them Someone told me to clip it to my pocket with the blade on the inside my pocket and clip outside a lot better As far as changing the blades, I use a dime This is a great knife, looking into the eab lite also

i have one of those i like it alot but i use my husky folding knive and i think thats alot better has nicer handle and a normal clip point part serated blade on it so that works alot better so your not only limited to the utility blade
