The wife and I have been teaching our son money management since he was 4 years old He earns his money through chores and when he wants something we make sure that he knows he has say a dollar and that's it and no more He'll point to other toys and he'll say he wants that and I explain the amount that item costs and that he only has one dollar I also tell him if he wants he can keep the dollar he has and save up for that toy or thing he wants He did well last year (he's five) and he saved up $45 for a toy by working, we take bottles back and if he helps we split the money and he got there by himself There is no really too young age to teach a kid about money

I always think of money as life energy How many hours of work do I have to work in order to buy what I want or need to buy Say I want to buy a $60 pair of shoes and I make $15 an hour net Will that pair of shoes will take me 4 hours of life energy to buy the pair of shoes Than you have to ask your self the question is this pair of shoes worth 4 hours of life energy? If it is you buy if it is not you pass
