Check out Six years with the Texas Rangers by James B Gillette He served from 1875-1881 if i recall Its a wealth of knowledge on various subjects regarding texas history and the rengers in general The Taylor-Sutton feud, indian raids, John Wesley Hardin, and many more Its fascinating for history and firearms buffs alike I've listened to the audiobook several times, and can't get enough of it Comment from : @ChrisB-r7c |

Cowboy Mounted Shooters Association members use almost exclusively 1873 clones, because of the more positive action of the cartridge lifter over other models The '92 is about 2lbs lighter, but the horse doesn't care and the rider doesn't have to see a loaded round fly out of his carbine Comment from : @vincentmueller3717 |

Thank you I enjoyed this 💞 Comment from : @oldlifter530 |

Interesting … you said in 1874 … 12, breechloading, cartridge shotguns brAm I to assume these were pin-fire shotguns?brThe earliest references to centerfire, cartridge shotguns I have found are the Colt 1878 br…brand the Greener was still a pin-fire in 1864 with improvements in 1869, and no “modern” references until 1876?brbrThe reason I ask is that there is a definite gap in establishing the double barrel SxS center fire shotgun in an historic timeline (and SASS knows this as they always beg out to the 1880s)brbrTBH, my personal, a Civil War vet going west after the war would have to be armed with:br- a Henry, Spenser, or Improved Henrybr- 2 C&B revolversbr- a percussion shotgunbrbrNot being cute, I really WANT to know brThank Mike Comment from : @steveferris663 |

That is really fascinating, that early rangers had to pay for their own guns I wonder if this was because many of them also used them at home for personal use, and not many rangers bought their own personal guns for economic or other reasons? Or maybe it was something totally unrelated brbrIt would be interesting to study in general how many civilians owned the guns discussed in this video for personal use in the late 1800s and early 1900s Comment from : @nate18268 |

In my loading book the 44-40 is 50 FPS faster than a 45 Colt with a 200 GR bullet Comment from : @DonaldRussell-g9t |

you cant really blame the indians for what they did since we stole their land and pretty much did the same stuff they did back if not worse Comment from : @zwitie3455 |
i'll take the 1866 Winchester over the Sharps in a close range Indian fight any day i do like McNelly's response about that though lol i wouldnt have any use for men that miss either they should be in a different profession if they cant shoot! I would have taken a S&W over the Colt too it's much quicker to reload Comment from : @Trumplican |
Thank You for your two part series on Guns of the Texas Rangers I had read the Miller's book, Texas Ranger John B Jones, prior to watching your videos and enjoyed hearing you elaborate on the several incidents that Rangers were involved in Wish you had made mention of Captain Neal Coldwell in the process Some of the cites of incidents of Rangers fighting Indians are marked with Texas Historical Markers & Roadside Markers and can be located in books covering them, as another resource for future research Keep producing your enjoyable videos Comment from : @michaelvanwinkle7919 |

Perhaps of some interest to those who admire the Texas Rangers, is a fact many are unaware of , that from their beginning in 1821 thru to the War for Southern Independence, there was no official (nor unofficial) badge for Texas Rangers Evidently they each were given signed papers proclaiming them as Texas Rangers, but they had no badges They were disbanded during the war years as nearly ALL joined Confederate Cavalry units After the war ,from 1865 to 1874 they were not re-instated, as a hated Carpet-bagger governor established the hated , over-bearing Texas State Police But in 1874 Texas was able to rid itself of the carpet-bagger governor and his hated State Police, and finally the Texas Rangers were reinstated It was at this time that official Ranger Badges were issued Comment from : @brucemorrison2132 |

Well done Man Comment from : @cfish64 |

Yea, I'll do a 50-70 Gov Sharps for hunting and home defense! Nice compact, wieldy carbine a little short on firepower but no shortage of horsepower! And I'll always have the two handy navy side irons in the belt Comment from : @steelgila |
Both posts were very informative Thanks for the work👍🏻 Comment from : @peterstaehlin |

The 44-40 and 45 Colt were the 19th century equivalent of the modern 556mm NATO and 9mm Luger, the set standards for contemporary fighting men Comment from : @thitsugaya1224 |
I understand the stand off power of something like the trap door rifle with the 45-70 cartridge, I use to have a Marlin guide gun in 45-70 and I had no problems hitting a 4'X4' piece of plywood at 325 yards, but during a closer engagement I think I would prefer a repeating rifle Comment from : @Agwings1960 |
Would have loved to finish the video but really hate when there's commercials jammed in the middle of the video That's very annoying If you want to monetize your videos and put commercials in them either put them at the beginning or at the end but not in the middle of the damn video Comment from : @db4075 |
