In fire red and leaf green you can actually find the difference in texture of grass which has items They have a dark green zigazag ,thats how i found most of my items

My favourite early way to get great balls is Zigzagoon with Pick Up May not be consistent, but I haven't had to buy pokeballs for a while thanks to Linoone

i think the most obscure, basically useless hidden item has to be the super potion at the outside entrance to rock cave from the power plant side you have to use cut on the top bush that is up against the cave, and behind it on the wall is a super potion, like 10 steps away from a pokemon center
