From what I understand in lorebrIn the first two movies the weapons were transformable because the cybertronian's needed to ALWAYS have weapons(because war) but integrated weapons took a lot of energon and at the third movie they say "Hey earth is pretty safe let's have separate weapons instead of integrated ones"

Well originally in G1 a lot of the built in weapons were used by the decepticons who were the elite warriors and high ranking officials of cybertron, and the autobots were generally from the working class the only auto bot that is excluded from this is bee who has built in weapons and is also based off a ninja

Actually, in ironhides case, I believe his hand blasters were blasted during revenge of the fallen, destroying them, Ultimately having Que give him hand held guns for dark of the moon, Plus Optimus still had his integrated swords, if you look back to when Optimus came flying in killing a bunch of decepticons, And he had it still during his confrontation against Galvatron, But yeah it definitely is for toy sales

I mean to be fair, even G1 had a mix of both but it's not like they were complete ass pulls Ironhide's cannons are damaged during the battle of Egypt and you see him drop them in the middle of combat because they simply don't work anymore And Optimus didn't just shoot Megatron with his own cannon, he halfway broke the damn thing so he could turn towards Megatron because his entire arm isn't pointed directly at him
