Looking back now it was simply a case of RBS growing too fast too quickly following the take over of Nat West more often than not the board at RBS got it right acquiring one acquisition after another the case with ABN Amro was that Fred’s ego got in the way of basic common sense this was due to Barclays been an antagonistic rival who bid first and inevitably would result in a purchase been overpriced but not checking the books , paying cash and doing this at the exact wrong time was the Downfall of RBS
