I stopped eating out completely, sometimes I stop by a fast food place when it's convenient but I get their cheap items and never get drinks

@petersmith2040
Stop playing the lottery and stop going to the casinos The amount of money you lose in gambling can easily be more than the amount of money you need to travel to Europe for a vacation

@christinacox2415
I absolutely love how balanced you are in your ideas about spending/not spending money on things you enjoy in order to travel You are right It is unrealistic to think that we can just instantly give up all the treats we enjoy (some may be able to but not me LOL) for the sake of travel Also, thinking about kids; I have two If you say to them we can't get this treat because we are saving for a really fun place to go, they can get frustrated because 1 They lose out on something they like and 2 It is in the future and NOT right now LOL Thanks for the mental shifts; that is really helpful to me

@TheShlips
Mark, you are an economist, as I remember You forgot to talk about going on a vacation when others dont Want to travel to Italy in the summer? It will cost you X amount of money But if you travel when theres not so many people around, when there are less tourists, you will spend less There will be less souvenir shops, the prices in the restaurants wont be as high, and there will be less people and tourists Everyone goes on a vacation during the summer, so the flights are more expensive, hotels, restaurants, etc

Lots of good advice and ideas, thank you! 😊 As a non-american I got to ask though, are people really buying two Starbucks a day? That sounds crazy to me I don't know anyone who buys coffee at coffee shops even once a day, not even just the regular coffee We drink lots of coffee here, but everyone I know make coffee at home and at work Going out for speciality coffee drinks is something I do a few times a year How can anyone afford to spend $5-$10 a day on Starbucks? 🤔

When I was a kid, my mom quit smoking She put aside all the money she would have spent on cigarettes for a year, and spent it on a trip to Vegas with a friend

@abkeener81
Hi, Mark! have a flight certificate with united that I need to use before December 25th But travel can be after Would you advise an airbnb (or like) or a hotel? I'm torn I like the thought of an airbnb type because I can control more of what goes into my body My Momma, Day, and Grandma (maternal) taught me how to cook growing up There's a family cobbler recipe Momma just shared with me in 2021 I think it's attributed to my Grandpa's (maternal) stepmother Grandpa was from Rome, Georgia I haven't been to Georgia since May 2004 And Rome since summer 1997 Anyway ,,, I like hotels too for reasons like security Sorry That squirrel got my attention Those who have ADD know the struggle is real This is Andrew KeenerbrAs an aside I also use apps on my phone that reward me for purchases (groceries, etc) I just take a photo of the receipt in the app, and after I reach a certain point threshold I can cash in those points for a PayPal payment I also use a health tracking app to do the same The PayPal payments ar typically no more than $10 US But it does add up I typically cashout every two months or so

Great video!!!I really am being more attentive to shopping! Id rather shop in Europe, so every-time I feel like buying clothes, I think Id rather buy this item abroad! And it’s much more fun having an item that you bought in Europe anyway I have so many treasured things which I bought on my travels And yes to the eating at home, healthier too Thank you
Comment from : @Ingrid0410

@petesmith4601
Even better tips:brbr1) create a biz that does travel reviews on YouTube and deduct the entire tripbrbr2) don’t save your money Invest it Fun fact nvidia made over 200 last year brbr3) thank you points from Citi rock Look into it
Comment from : @petesmith4601

@pieterjanvl
One thing I try to do for more expensive trips is spreading the big expenses I've been planning an NYC trip (from Europe) more than a year in advance Paid for the tickets 12 months prior I've paid half of our Airbnb stay 2 months later and I'll pay the other half in a few months Making the total cost of the trip much more bearable I also have a spare bank account and every time a friend has to pay me back, or I earn money outside of my day job, I put it there It's money I can spend without worrying it'll interfere with my monthly expensesbrbrBTW I don't know if you know this, but in Belgium (and maybe other European countries) 'Wolters' is a name of a series of atlas books often used in schools 🙂
Comment from : @pieterjanvl

@WrldExplorer
Got tickets for the Olympics back in January 2023 I make sure I focused my Amex gold card for groceries, and dinning(4x points) to get my flights because accommodations are going to be thru the roof in Paris I usually don’t like traveling in the summer to Europe but I’ve been wanting to go to both for so long, and the Games are playing there, so I’ll manage Retired so I can stay longer, and see slower between my planned events Flights are now covered, so now budget for accommodations, and food He’s right Plan plan plan

I'm a person who's been retired due to medical issues for between 15 - 20 years I live on less than $2,000 from SSDI In the last 8 years I've been to Europe 4 times I budget my travels, though having visited London each time hasn't helped I have family there, so that helps, too I'm planning for a trip in 2026 to see Hungary, Romania, Czechia, Poland I'm trying to save for a months trip Being in my mid-60s, this is something I never thought I could accomplish Also, growing up in the 1960s, all of these countries were part of the Russian federation I took a 3 month, 9000 mile road trip around the USA last year If you watch your spending, you can go to the most places if you keep your budget in mind and realize that you may not stay as long as you'd like I also cut out cable 7 years ago and only have a Roku for my entertainment system Have a great year, Wolters family

Unpopular savings tip: If you live in a well-designed big city, don’t own a car There’s so much you save on gas, parking, tolls, insurance, and maintenance, and you can replace it with Uber, biking, public transit, which will be infinitely less expensive

@andreschusan6086
I was an alcoholic last year (three hundred and fourteen days sober and counting) I smartened up my act and decided to save all of my hard working residuals I was tight throughout the spring, summer and fall On November 18, 2023 - December 9, 2023 I ended up going on a solo backpacking adventure to a two continent, two country, twelve city exploration of Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Tarifa & Sevilla) and Morocco (Tanger, Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga/ Sahara Desert, Marrakech, Casablanca and Rabat) Logistically it went smooth (prebooking is a must), Hotels and hostels were pleasant but it was grueling and lonely at times It was an educational experience of people, culture, gastronomy and I learned alot about myself Trip of a lifetime I have yet to remove my smile from my dumb assbr Much respect for your travel expertise I took some of your advice for research (always) and you are exactly correct, I had that mentality of not spending on the un-necessities and just focus on yourself, health, and enjoy God's greatest gift Life!

@bretonneaYKNT
Great advice! I save money for traveling by cooking at home, drinking tap water (I never buy pop and drink alcohol only on special occasions) rarely shopping for new clothes I eat out when traveling! I usually stay in hostels and use public transport I try to travel light: less room to bring big souvenirs!

I just readjusted my spending and committed to putting aside $100 off of each pay cheque and saw how much will add up even just by June of this year, and it blew my mind Not enough to go on a vacation (unless there is a smoking deal) but still enough to go "wow"
Comment from : @brendenstuder6119

@sandiandgregh
Terrific tips I was lucky to have parents who wanted to travel home (to Northern Ireland and Scotland) from Canada very regularly We grew up seeing how they worked hard and budgeted so carefully from the early 1970s til my Dad’s death in more recent years to make that dream a reality I followed in their footsteps and as an adult have always travelled…on a budget Many of their tricks and tips are similar to yours My other “tip” is that I have worked full time for 35 years while also having my own business on the side, a part time job, or a contract job, to supplement my income and help save funds
Comment from : @sandiandgregh

@bdimon
I really wanted a $25,000 BMW motorcycle but I settled for a $15,000 bike that was not nearly as fancy Now, I have enough for a $8,000 three-week trip to ride a motorcycle through the French Alps It's booked!

Another way to save money that adds up over time is to switch your cellphone plan to Google voice You will still need to buy a data plan for the times when wifi is not available, but this really doesn’t cost much Google voice works all over the world

@judasplow25
In other words, use common sense
Comment from : @judasplow25

@dmack602
Mark you are absolutely right, I had to Discipline myself and cut back on some habits to save money
Comment from : @dmack602

@matttv94
The main thing is people get their pay packet and think that’s all of their money to spend! It’s not! Set up a direct debit from your main bank account to your savings every pay day and just live on what’s left over The key is living below your means I’ve been saving 18 months for my Australian working holiday, living on £130 a week less than what I actually earn so I can afford my upcoming trip
Comment from : @matttv94

@manuvns
Pay for the trip with miles and point you collect
Comment from : @manuvns

@timmmahhhh
Very good advice Mark, excellent video You mentioned vacation credit card debt so here's another tip: pay off those credit cards every month to avoid interest! Using your tips will help with that because you're not spending as much money brbrCoffee: while you're in Target by bags of Starbucks or your favorite coffee there If you have a Keurig, don't buy the pods, buy a couple of the reusable pods and fill those with that bagged coffee, which saves both money and the environment I think Keurig pods are recyclable now, but they weren't at first, and some of them still may not be; regardless using the reusable ones will save you moneybrbrCable TV:brPeople over 40: not a bad ideabrPeople under 40: you still have cable?? 😂😅🤣brWe dropped cable in 2003 as my wife was addicted to the news post 911 And with a TV antenna, you will be surprised how many of those non-premium cable channels you will get with the aerial on the digital channels For example, here in the Chicago area, channel 9 has the main channel is 91 and other cable channels at 92 through 94

@Elim96
Hey! I have Goodnews for you Dearie👌brThe Good News is that God's promise of entering his place of rest still stands It was announced to us just as it was to some people of old But it did them no good because they didn't believe what God told them They couldn't enter because of disobedience and unbeliefbrbrThis is a call to enter into God's rest, brso what is stopping you ? Is it disobedience? Jesus has been made a sin offering, he died already, allow him into your heart so you can find rest from your labour This load is too heavy for you to carry, let him help youbrbrAnother Goodnews is that he is the only God that forgives and forgetsbr(Heb 10:17, Heb 4br"I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds") saith the LordbrHe is knocking, allow him today

Working in low-tax places I see some Youtubers have worked in such places and saved heaps of money I find that in some countries the paycheck goes further, and in other places it is a bit tight If you pay 30–50 in taxes, that means you need to work 2 days per week for taxes Why not move to a low-tax place and work just 3 days or work those 5 weekdays for yourself?
