In my personal experience grade 1 braille is the easiest alphabet/writing system to learn I have learned Elder Furhark and Mando'a (a fictional writing system) and braille took me the least amount of time to memorize the alphabet (like a hour at most) That was last Friday to be specificbrbrI am now starting to move on to learning Grade 2/Level 2 braille and I believe this is why the writing system is known as difficult Grade 2 braille makes use of contractions like: the word 'but' can be represented by the letter 'b' or the 'ea' part of a word can be represented by a dot in the second potition From the little if seen so far the contractions have their own rules that governs their use There are a lot of rules but as of yet I'm not sure how many Furthermore there are around 180 to 190 contractions in braille So overall grade 2 braille is pretty complex considering that it is just a writing system and not a languagebrbrOverall grade 1 was easy to memorize (alphabet, numbers and basic punctuation – I am still in the process of memorizing some of the less frequently used punctuation) Grade 2 on the other hand looks to be a lot more complex and might turn out to be extremely difficultbrbrPlease note that I am learning by sight and drawing dots on paper and not yet by touch because I don't have any physical braille to practice on I am learning it by myself using only digital books, images and blogs I have not yet watched any videos on it but I think that might be a easier way to learn all the rules I do not know how much easier it is to read braille by sight so my analysis does not necessarily apply to blind people trying to learn itbrbrtldr: in my experience the basic alphabet, numbers and punctuation are easy to learn and can be learned from a pinterest image That won't be ideal however since there are useful websites et cetera that can assist and speed the process up by a bit but either way it can be done with relative ease Learning the second level of braille seems more challenging but still doablebrbrPS: I might update this as I learn more Comment from : @EmmaTheSmol |
