actual use for this is a magic trick gimmick i have the same one not sure why the company made the inside sharp, but it is it is so that you can hive the illusion of breaking the coin ie biting it, bending it, snapping it

I bought a Kennedy half like this from a magic shop in the 70s There was no slot or anything in the middle of the coin, but had the rim slotted for a rubber band (like they use for braces inside the mouth) You would show someone a regular half dollar to inspect Switch coins, fold and drop the modified trick coin in a bottle Turn it over to get the coin out and switch coins to the other half dollar
