1000$ is the budget option? You can get an old thinkpad for less than 150 dollars and it will last you for years brbrI speak to all you aspiring programmers, you don’t need this kind of hardware to be a programmer You are the programmer, not your hardware If u can’t make due with a cheap laptop, don’t get an expensive one

I'm not a software programmer, but PLC, HMI, robot programming and heading in to data and networking in the near future, this is the way to gobrBut I would say that 15 is small, I rather go with 17 inch screen due to some software has trubbel with smal screens, and a full set keyboard, good access to all chort cut commands gives you speed
Comment from : Dennis Svensson

David
That's exactly what I was looking for Thank you

Comment from : Anna Racovic

Ashley Harrison
I agree, although I could understand you perfectly, a middle ground between a our main body and outro would be ideal in terms of speaking speed It doesn’t need to pro-long the videos if you go a more concise route Having said that if you hadn’t of mentioned it, I wouldn’t have cared 🤷‍♀️ You do you!
Comment from : Ashley Harrison

Somyong Kim
Note to others: In my personal experience, you DO NOT need a special device for web development I think a lot of self-taught developers take the web-development path and I'm telling you, you probably DO NOT need a new fancy laptop
Comment from : Somyong Kim

karsten burger
14 inch screen It is ok if you have long train travela where you may be able to woek about half the time, but other than this i will work with external keyboard, mouse and two extra screens

The Welder
It's not about the laptop that makes a good coding experience, it's the IDE The number of lines of code you can see on screen is about the Window size and placement Just as you can see in the lead-in part of this video, 20 of the editing window is taken up with toolbars and output Window which you don't even need to see until you compile Moreover, most experienced coders use keyboard shortcuts, so having a verbose toolbar is just taking up working real estate
Comment from : The Welder

Pandhêga Palibaya
The only problem with macbook is I can't install linux, I can't run Docker natively

I arrived 7 months late to this video (I know it's two months old), I'm currently studying a Software engineering at university and I bought in January a second hand laptop based only in processor, ram and storage, it ended up being a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga X1 Gen 6 with 16/512 and an Intel EVO certification (I used that as a premium reference), and now, seeing it listed in this video (Even being two generations below the recommended) makes me reaffirm that I made a good purchase, thanks for the guide and video

Berkay Aktaş
Dear Josh, I am starting my computer-science education this year my budget was only enough for a laptop with 8gb soldered ram, ryzen 7 5700u cpu and no dedicated gpu Do you think it is enough for a computer science student? I hope it doesn't become a problem for me And can you make a video about low power laptop users to do things like machine-learning or some other hard stuff?
Comment from : Berkay Aktaş

As a developer with 18 years of experience, i can tell what u need:br8/16 cpubr32 gb rambr1 tb nvmebr14"brbrEz as that Cheers 🍻brbrPs: don't buy a 16gb ram laptop, u will regret it Why? Check yr browser, only chrome might eat 6gb of ram add some vm and compilation in the background -- u are out of memory Trust me on this one -- u need only 32 gb rambrEasiest way to pick what u need -- pick from gaming laptops, as most of them will fit; dont even look at "laptops for devs or creators" -- those are always rubbish
Comment from : MrJloa

UnladPinoyTV
im a coder as well one thing i realize is to never buy a big and small laptop ever again i experience both for small one it's hard to read for big one it's hard to carry it's gotta be in the middle if you needed a bigger screen you can always have another separate monitor

Comment from : Dominic Lobo

I thought the X1 Carbon would be good for me, I'll take your word for it Josh brbrReally enjoyed the video, professional and clear, subscribed
Comment from : Drake TDI

Philippe Fanaro
I really like how you simplify so many complex things, truly a hallmark of someone experienced For example, the amount of code on screen being directly proportional to how much stuff you fit in your head is something I wish I had learned 10 years ago, in uni, instead of only some years ago
Comment from : Philippe Fanaro

Maverick Lane
Laptops should never be used for programming because of sensitive palm rests which cause the cursor to move off the string you're typing on

I think the new MacBook Air 15 inch (with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD) ticks the checkboxes for most people They're pricey, but they should last a good 5 years, and they don't even have a fan! Apple has done something really special with their silicon - they've managed to get super "i7-like" performance from something that only sips around 5 Watts of power (hence the reason why Apple silicon stays cool and doesn't need a fan) If I wasn't such a Linux addict, I'd probably get the MacBook Air 15 But I am a Linux addict, hence Apple hardware is completely out of the question for me 😄 Good call on the Ryzen 6000 or 7000 series! The new Ryzen rDNA (I think they're up to version 3 now) are very noteworthy - an integrated GPU with comparable performance to dedicated GPUs from a few years back (and still able to play quite a few games at reasonable frame rates) At the moment, my dream laptop would be something with a 16 inch display, no dedicated GPU, a Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU, and at least one USB 4 port (so I can use an external GPU for work/AI stuff), and user-replaceable WiFi card, RAM and two m2 slots 😄(and a 99W battery, and a mechanical keyboard) I don't care about weight, because I'm a blokebrbrAnyway, thanks for the video, you don't talk too fast (speed is spot on), perhaps review mechanical keyboards too 😉
Comment from : Scott Deagan

Jonathan Yee
BTW i use HP Spectre x360 He gave a warning on it But I've been using as a programming laptop and have no issues with it Fan is loud but doesn't annoy me I run a 2 VScode (1 for a react app, another for net backend), browsers open, docker running postgres, and few more utility app All development done in WSL
Comment from : Jonathan Yee

Keith Gardner
Everybody has a different budget sweet-spot, and while some may want to use something like the X1 Carbon, not everyone can afford to pay over $2000 for a laptop You may disagree, but from where I sit, there's nothing wrong with buying a used or refurbished model As long as the processor is relatively new, you'll be able to run the latest OS (this becomes more important each year that goes by) For example, this morning I was looking at a refurbished 8th Gen X1 Carbon for less than $1000, and I'm sorry but I would be hard-pressed to justify the price of a current 11th Gen mode if I could get a Windows 11-capable machine like this that's just a few years old for less than half the price If it's your only computer, maybe, fine Or if you're (as Josh is) a professional developer, and you truly need every bit of performance, that's a different matter For most of us, I'm not so sure! brbr(* and as for your talking speed in these videos, I usually crank it up to 125 anyway, as I did here, so yes, you're fine)
Comment from : Keith Gardner
