I'm building out a website and to bulk import my items I use a csv file I was dreading having to pull data from one of the excel documents as I was going to have to use a vlookup I wasted a whole day trying to get the vlookup to workbr
brToday I was going to try again I’m glad that I was procrastinating and opened up my YouTube page first I'm not sure how your video got on my home page, but I'm glad it didbr
brI didn't try the vlookup today Instead, I opened your video, and I’m glad I did you saved me another day of not getting anything done Your steps are very clear as you explain them and what you should expect to see happen as you complete each step Even with the data being in two different workbooks I was able to get the data on the first try with your steps Thank you for such a great video Comment from : @CozyCottageGoods |
Its always better to do things the hard way instead of the easiest way that works best 97 of the time Just use vlookup unless you need to do something that most people will never need Ive been a business analyst 10 years using excel daily and only used Index Match less than 10 times in my entire career Its so confusing that you will be lost if you need to adjust the formula later on If your a masochist, this video is for you Comment from : @richardcampbell7055 |
this is so much better and well explained thank you so much Comment from : @pollamollaza |

Why Waste our time by your explanation of vLookup and just tell us HOW the heck Machup works!!!! Your instruction includes unnecessary information to apparently impress us with how much you know I can tell you are very smart so just be respectful of our time and exclude the unnecessary info and show how it is to be done SIMPLY Comment from : @charlesphillips7731 |

INDEX is wonky, I like OFFSET MATCH combo Comment from : @marcw5492 |

It was great help, thank you Comment from : @funtimewithaaron370 |
Yes index and match does seem like it is better than vlookup, but not nearly as much as you overhyped it and downplayed vlookup You can use match with vlookup, it is more restrictive but can be done Comment from : @johnm4141 |
Indexmatch just work in one colum with same place on 2nd colum its showing spill! Why Comment from : @marwahleo2750 |

I have a commission-based job I get tons of deposits throughout the month from many companies Do you think Index Match is a good tool to try to audit commissions? Or is there something better-suited? I tell youour entire industry sucks for the low man on the totem pole when it comes to auditing our sales and commissions As a matter of fact, I know no one who audits because it is simply too challenging Comment from : @amandamatthews4545 |
LOVE IT! THANKS FOR YOUR GUIDANCE Comment from : @makuibellezaholistica |

thanks for help, finally i found the formula Comment from : @aldhydwicahyo360 |
index match works well than vloookup i'm battling for a week using vlookup although it finds some data in a rows but some rows it can't even find so i have to repeat the formula again and again thanks bro!!! Comment from : @jeremylatayan1074 |
One thing that frustrates me the most about vlookup is when I forget to put FALSE in the last parameter and I get unexpected results as a result The second thing is the performance when I use tens of thousands of rows that all need to lookup a key on some other sheet it sometimes makes all operations slow such that you end up having to disable automatic recalculation because excel becomes to painful to use Comment from : @drescherjm |
THX! Comment from : @JahWas1 |
Looks like XLOOKUP would do it in a second 🤔 Comment from : @kotrynele |

Neither VLOOKUP nor MATCH is working on the data I'm using Both return #N/A and no amount of formatting makes a difference I'm baffled and suppose I just have to go back to manual matching by hand for some things Comment from : @Endymion766 |

Couldn't you just use xlookup to do the same thing? Comment from : @TheDocdreamer |
I think the struggle I have with INDEX MATCH explanations is that it is described as a substitute for VLOOKUP Many times when I try to use IM I have many issues such as the "full name" in your example being associated with multiple IDs If George Washington also had customer 1004 for some reason, IM stops at the first match and would create issues Comment from : @ryanschuman3952 |
Thank you so much for to this breakdown! I'll definitely be using these functions a lot more in the future : ) Comment from : @adhdru |

Great video demonstrating a more flexible alternative to VLOOKUP() formulas
br
brMy personal preference is to use Power Query, which eliminates the use of formulas entirely Comment from : @serdip |
