I’m sorry 1200 a month as an E-1? Absolutely not, why would I ever put my wellbeing and safety on the line when that’s what my gov values me at I can get a CDL out of high school and make officer level money No wonder they have issues with finding new soldiers

I'm glad to see that military pay is still a joke Your hourly rate is way off Who works 8 hours a day in the military Try using a real average workday It breaks down to a realistic hourly rate of around 400 an hour If the military had to pay overtime, a lot of the hurry up and wait would disappear fast

Money matters, but so does having a plan I come from a long line of both military veterans and blue-collar workers I grew up in a trailer park with a working mom and a stepdad who made minimum wage as a security guardbrbrMy plan isn't perfect, but I used my 21 years in to become the first in my family to earn a four-year degree, buy a house (using the GI Bill), and generally take advantage of everything the Army has to offer I don't make a lot of money in my civilian job but have a resume that could double or maybe even triple my pay I get my pension as an E-7, 100 disability, and live a quiet life that I never dreamed of having when I was a brash young Private simply waiting for the next paycheck to hit Of my five kids, two are adults finding their own paths in life and being as successful as they can these days, while the other three are teenagers about to embark on their next journeys within a few years

If you are married, do you recieve BAH when you are in basic? Or BAH only comes in when you reach your duty station? I enlisted in the marine corps and am shipping out to basic in September Im getting married in june so id like to be able to send my spouse money when im at basic

I joined the army at 29, I turn 30 March 11, 2024 My ship date is 2/20/24 I am an E-2 rank thanks to my recruiter for taking the 9 courses in Future Soldier program For those saying that military pay sucks, I disagree My last job was a Sales Manager in Marietta, GA I made $3,500/monthly after taxes My bills monthly total were $3,200 leaving me with only $300/month I have NO KIDS or pets and live in "safe neighborhood in Georgia, 1 bedroom apartment with security camera for extra protection) Now fast forward, got rid of my car because I wont need it, my total bills in the military will be $191 so I can save way more money, finish my degree, and get a house after I get out Please dont let people fool you into thinking the pay sucks when you literally have little to no bills (Single soldiers) Different if you have a family

One thing that should be changed is that BAH should not be accounted for when calculating an hourly wage Base pay and BAH should be used only since if you live on base they take all your BAH anyways

Back in 2018, I was making $600 per check as an E-1 I question what I was doing because a McDonald worker gets paid more brbrCompared to the civilian side, they pay you for every single hour you work plus OT pay

Ask your recruiter about going in E-2 No reason why anybody should go in E-1 it took me like 2 hours to rank up it was 9 courses on a computer and a physical fitness test

you can come in as a E4 with the ACASP (Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program) Certain MOS’s allow you to take advantage of this If you are a Nationally registered EMT you can come in as a E4 and there is bonuses for ACASP 68W’s
