I grew up in an old line Pentecostal environment It was there that it was inculcated into me that to truly crucify my life and live a surrendered life for Christ and His kingdom, meant that anything that was an interest, a preference, a desire, passion, or a sense of purpose, needed to be removed from my life and destroyed I’m 69 now and looking back on my life, all I see are ashes No education completed, no career, no family, no children, I’m barely at the poverty level, if not below it It feels like if I were to actually have a moment of success or to prosper, it would be an act of rebellion against the kingdom of God It’s only now I have a sense that this is a schizophrenic understanding of the kingdom of God I’d like to be able to afford to pay a few bills and even at my age imagine myself with a family
