I completely agree that language teachers should be language learners themselves! I've had a few teachers who seem to think it's easy-peasy to learn their mother tongue, and who would get frustrated when I couldn't remember something after they said it once or twice They were the same people who refused to learn other languages It's definitely not a coincidence! It’s a valuable video Of course, in the pandemic times the situation has changed even worse It can be a struggle sometimes but I believe it is worth the effort I teach psychology to students in a foreign language and all hints are highly appreciated Comment from : @5MinutePsychology |

Thank you professor Arguelles Having thought for a year before I moved on I know first hand how frustrating classroom teaching (and learning) can be I frequently had over 28 students in my classes paying a premium at a public university to learn the bare minimum a quarter and getting frustrated Our textbooks were atrocious and boring and to further add salt to the wound, instructors were criticized for poor performance And finally, grading was hell Good luck to you all on your foreign language endeavors Comment from : @jceja87 |

Would you say that learning the student's mother tongue is vital to getting successful results? Comment from : @bavwill |

i respond really well to classroom teaching its really good at teaching grammar and maintaining progress while being really busy the biggest problem ive noticed though now that ive branched out and tried to learn on my own is a profound lack of useful vocabulary after 3 years of spanish in high school i still dont know all of the 1000 most common words thats ridiculous in my opinion like you said it has potential but often doesnt live up to it Comment from : @xnightxamex |

It's not impossible to learn another language If that was the case, exchange students wouldn't come back to their home country as fluent speakers
You're dyslexic, so obviously that makes it hard to learn a written language Not much you can do about that Comment from : @InMooseWeTrust |

Thank you for openly supporting the methodology of Lingua Genesis Ltd
I've also considered this phenomenon as an approach to MFL learning and would mention the following as factors which determine classroom tuition success:
- Overall class size
- Regularity of attendance per head
- Variety of abilities and learning styles
- Available time for out-of-class independent learning
- Balance of revision and introduction of new topics
- Outcomes to be achieved within a course timescale Comment from : @LinguaGenesis |

I think this can be true to a degree My first foreign languages were German and Spanish, which are from completely different families, but French and Italian, being from the same family as Spanish, I can draw similarities with word appearances, word order and word predictability I have tried Turkish, though, which I found hard, but as I knew I would be less likely to use it, perhaps I was less motivated to carry it on Comment from : @LinguaGenesis |

Yep - if the teacher is poor and the class is mandatory, this can be a truly hideous experience My best experience with classes have been with higher level non credit evening classes The classes tend to be small, and the students more motivated The last class I took ended up with 4 students, so each of us had lots of speaking and instruction time Comment from : @ptpark |

I actually had a really good experience with a summer language institute in Chicoutimi, Quebec There was a signed oath at the beginning that students use only French, or leave Classes were mornings 4hrs, 5 days a week, with activities and sports filling out the other times (all in French) There were 14 people in my class and it was the biggest at the school Most students were also in home-stays My French blossomed more in those 6 weeks than in 20 years of public school Comment from : @caeliean |
