Is this the same de Vere family whose descendant Edward de Vere is said to have been the actual author of many of not most of Shakespeare’s works? brbr(This is a question, not a disguised challenge to a joust with Stratfordians)
Comment from : @cjb8010

@acecel
Eleanor is an amazing historian, narrator, storyteller, and presenter She is so passionate about everything she say and you can tell she is enjoying sharing her knowledge as much as we enjoy watching the videos

@SteveConkie-t6r
I would have preferred this to have been presented by a native English speaker And not to be about the worst castle in Europe
Comment from : @SteveConkie-t6r

@susiemartin3144
Interesting but you could try to pronounce the family name the same way throughout the film!
Comment from : @susiemartin3144

@paulcampbell7518
The content is interesting, and seems to be well-founded, but I am disappointed that the presenter makes so many grammatical and pronunciation errors - “Moat” (mowt) pronounced “mot”?! etc I'm afraid it undermines her credibility as a scholar and reflects poorly on the educational system that leaves such gaping holes in intellectual discourse
Comment from : @paulcampbell7518

@barrocaspaula
I want to see the quarters even if they are under construction
Comment from : @barrocaspaula

@KrisFer2
My husband’s family were and are a noble family in BelgiumbrbrI traced the heraldry to its origins in the1305 , with the agreement to fight in a war to earn land and title I enjoy thinking about the drawings of them and how they would have lived back in early Belgium They were initially balduin
Comment from : @KrisFer2

Comment from : @briemiller2552

@Mhapple
Great video and tremendous presentation - I wish I could do that, she's at super hero- ninja level - wow!
Comment from : @Mhapple

@nigelh3253
I am always completely amazed how advanced people were in putting up huge buildings - for example this castle At a time when life was very simple; basic metalwork, no electricity, no technology that we have todaybrBecause to build a castle like this in 2025 with all the skills we now have, well, that would be a massive task!
Comment from : @nigelh3253

@aderhoney6234
The small windows at ground level are defensive "Archery slots" Inside the windows are chamfered to 45 degrees so that the archer could alter aim left or right as necessary - nothing to do with poor people living on the lowest level I'm afraid there are a few errors like that throughout the program but I'm not being unkind, we brits visit castles throughout our education from a very young age
Comment from : @aderhoney6234

@rhondahoughton790Canada
This is an amazing video It took me (Canadian) a moment to understand that what I was hearing as “Mottinbailey” was actually “Moat & Bailey “ 😂 Amazing video
Comment from : @rhondahoughton790Canada

@princessrevenge
I love her narration and enthusiasm But disappointed that the living quarters of the family were under renovation and thus not shown Hopefully you will do another episode to show the living quarters so we can see how Nobles lived in mediaeval times
Comment from : @princessrevenge

@richardsweeney197
Souls are prayed for, not prayed to Only God, the father, son, and holy spirit are prayed to Even when we pray to saints, it is asking their prayers to aid us Not for them to grant us Miracles, but to get them to add their prayed to ours, as they are in the presence of God
Comment from : @richardsweeney197

@BlackKettleRanch
I've heard enough What a bunch of A-holes God bless America that everyone has the opportunity to do better for themselves without being suppressed by some royal A-hole
Comment from : @BlackKettleRanch

Comment from : @clairewilson2620

@michaeld3779
So, basically, the nobles were thugs that employed gangs of lesser thugs to take what they wanted--through violence--from the common people The king (the biggest thug), gave the noble thugs land--that was taken by violence--in exchange for keeping the king in power
Comment from : @michaeld3779

@michaeld3779
Those bottom windows appear to be loopholes They were much wider on the inside, allowing a bowman to maneuver and aim from side to side His angles were greatly increased for aiming The enemy on the outside only had a small slit as a target area
Comment from : @michaeld3779

@joshpascual7539
Big respect she explains everything in detail
Comment from : @joshpascual7539

@CEAB
Had to stop when her American voice said ‘bunch’ twice in one sentencebrI’m sure this would have been quite interesting, but those two elements (accent and grammar) made listening to her impossiblebrEdited: Returning to Suzannah Lipscombe She’s a true authority
Comment from : @CEAB

@hedgemist691
Nowadays, the invaders are put up in heated hotels and provided with three square meals a day

Comment from : @DavidB-ec7bm

@JoeOrwig-zt6jd
Why does she keep calling a mote a mot?
Comment from : @JoeOrwig-zt6jd

@isaojable
It's interesting to note that the word "Dungeon" actually comes from the French word "donjon," which referred to the highest tower of a medieval castle, not an underground prison cell It's curious how the Brits and Americans have come to misuse the term, associating it with dark, subterranean prison cells, when its original meaning was the central, most important part of a castle
Comment from : @isaojable

@chuckcollins4715
Archetypical is not pronounced ARCH uh TIP i cul It is pronounced ARK uh TIP i cul

I used to live in Great Yeldham, just a couple of km from Hedingham Castle I always found it impressive Great to see it again!
Comment from : @DeannaAllison

@pedro2150
Why did the de Veres keep the Portuguese royal family's shield (timestamp: 10:17) hanging on the wall?
Comment from : @pedro2150

@anastasia10017
why does Eleanor mispronounce words ? she speaks with an American accent but calls France "Frauwnce" , she calls a moat (?) , a "Mott" -- why ?
Comment from : @anastasia10017

@angelawebb7676
I’m sure I’m not the first to comment this but she reminds me so much of Olivia Colman
