Today I bought a used bike and I made quite a bargain I thinkbrI bought it from eBay, messaged the guy and went to him to inspect itbrIt's a Kross Vento 20 from 2016 or something It's got Shimano claris groupset, I know just entry level (but quite sufficient for an beginner like me brIt's got some internal cable routing, good built quality and in really pristine conditionbrThe guy who sold it, is a bike technician as well, and when he heard that I was going to use the bus, because no pedals were included, he gave some new platform pedals he had spare from his new bike for free, so that I could ride home instant brJust before I came he also put new tyres and inner tubes on itbrbrI just paid 250€ for it and I'm so happy

on old bikes, say 2000's, i always look if the rear derailleur is still straight If it isnt, it might mean the tab its attached to is bent very hard to bend back Also very hard or even impossible to calibrate all gears I own a 1999's Cannondale R300 for 4 years now, and bought a couple of old bikes with my broke student friends They are still happy with them! Though at tours, theres never a more "mickey mouse" team than ours

I didn't find an answer to my biggest question - How do you find out whether the parts match modern standards, or they are too outdated? Can you find replacements still, or nobody sells them anymore? (in the case of an old bike)

I will be shopping in the basement of Dave's Bike Shop for a used bike that I can use for a 100 km ride that involves a wicked series of hills with a 25 average grade over 10 km My wife and I drove over this epic hill I am almost 52 years old and I want to ride over the hill Yes, you could say I am already over the hill at my age!brbrI don't expect to be fast so I am looking at a mountain bike or other comfortable bike that I can have Dave's Bike Shop tune up for that wicked hill

The chain-checker tool is a good idea! Bring one, so you show that you are competent Second, if the chain is stretched, there is a a good chance that the cassette is worn out as well That is a good point to reduce the price a little

Im a expert on marketplace bikes And yes there has been some sketchy people Dont know what there talking about I ask them alot of qs before I even meet up Also I look under the bottom bracket to see if the serial numbers were scratched off Ask them if they are the original owners and if they have any receipts or paper work Alot have no problem to provide if there original owners But if some joe smith doesnt match up with there story Tell them if its ok to look up the serial number from a police buddy Lol

How can I become a professional cyclist as I do about 800 miles a month on my cycle doing deliveroo and have been told by fellow colleagues and restaurants that I should compete in Tour De France but I haven't got a trek domane pro I have a b-twin riverside which I've upgraded the tyres because the other ones got punctured easily so got 5mm thick tyres with puncture protect these tyres are soft in the middle and has grip on the outer edge of the tyre which is great

Along the years i have bough around 8 bikes all used, cause i could never afford a brand new one, my observations are as follows:br-most will have worn out tires and transmissionsbr-check the size and fit for comfortbr-there is 1/10 chances the bike was stolen at some point, exception when they have the original receiptbr- keep 1/5 of what you pay for the bike for mainentance Most likely you will need to fit a new cassette and chainbr-mountain bikes are a lot more problematic than road bikes, check the suspension and hidraulic brakes, and any cracks There are ocassions where the rear wheel will have to be rebuilt because of a damaged rim or spokes who start going out one by onebr-Vintage bikes with 2x7/ 3x7 and cantilever/v brakes tend to have less problems than modern bikes, even if they have issues they are cheap and easy to fixbr-modern brifters on road bikes are very expensive to replace if they have issuesbr-avoid used carbon frames and parts, cracks are hard to notice but they can have costly consequences, not worth the trouble really unless you get them for peanuts
