 The real reason the US government stopped minting silver coins is NOT, as propaganda of the politicians and naive media personalities of the time alleged, because the price of silver was rising above the face values of the silver coins Because the constitutional [silver] dollar mentioned twice in the US Constitution and clearly defined in SEC 9 of the Coinage Act of 1792, was ITSELF a weight of silver [ie, 37125 grains, or 7734375 of a troy ounce, of pure silver], the price of an ounce of silver could NOT, mathematically or logically, ever exceed $129 In fact, even today, as measured against the constitutional standard silver dollar, the price of an ounce of silver remains $129! [Today an ounce of silver is around FRN 5000] The so-called "rise in the price" of silver relative to the silver dollar and fractional-dollar silver coins was a scam, a HOAX, as discussed in my new book "THE GREAT US DOLLAR HOAX" The apparent "rise in the price of silver" was due to the over-issuance of paper currency [Silver Certificates and, esp, Federal Reserve Notes] relative to the supply of silver / silver coins they supposedly represented It was excessive government spending and the resulting OVER-ISSUANCE of the paper promises to redeem in silver coin that was responsible It is time to begin phasing out the Federal Reserve and its debt-based fiat system and start again following the Constitution in monetary matters! [My previously-mentioned book contains recommended remedial legislation to achieve that] Huzzah!
