I'm a 45 year old engineer and a millionaire and Dave is absolutely right The process to build wealth was followed and, over a long enough time, it worked I would imagine that almost every engineer I graduated with is currently a millionaire for the same reason It isn't glamorous but it feels good to not be in the same hole so many other people my age are Comment from : @119Agent |

Dave is right about these groups being process oriented, but his take that being process-oriented means there is only one way to do something is such a reflection of his worldview that I laughed out loud As an engineer, there are many ways to build a building…you want wood frame, poured concrete, mud brick…the process orientation is more about long term planning than a single way to do things Comment from : @fennugreek-gs5zb |
Engineers know math That's why Comment from : @BradKwfc |

My Dad was an engineer He made a good wage, nothing crazy However, he did exactly what they talk about, living below means He bought a house in California in 1969 which my Mom still lives in today He put as much as he could into his 401k, put money into savings bonds, and an IRA He always paid 100 cash for his cars and always paid off credit cards in full brbrIf you do that, after 30 years you will have a paid off home, paid off cars and a nice nest egg Comment from : @jimmbear3998 |
Funny, telling a kid with his hat on backwards how to become a millionaire What I have noticed about white people nowdays, is that in every sentence, they throw out the F word to show the world how tough and savie they are I am amazed at how low we can go - remember the old limbo song - how low can we go Funny, but not Comment from : @JKent-ry9yg |
A job honestly doesn’t gives you the time, space and opportunity to chase your dreams and achieve your goals From personal experience i can tell you working a serious job is modern day slavery they pay you a small amount for doing a significant amount of work and promises you promotion Best advice make investments and take calculated risks that would guarantee your success Comment from : @tonysilke |

He is so correct I work for a utility company from the age of 25 I am now 53 I have 900,000 in my 401(k) and my pension buyout will be about 800,000 when I retire I paid my house off that’s worth about 750 This is just from a blue collar job I know there’s some people who tell you not to invest in your 401(k) I believe I’ve always been at 20 and the money grows quickly I will retire when I’m 55 with 30 years of service Comment from : @Icanchange1200 |
The common skill and insight among those top 5 occupations is understanding how numbers/math works, on a practical levelbrbrWhen you understand compound interest, and get a career in a good company that helps you grow your 401k or pension, you have an easy vehicle to grow your wealthbrbrNever carry a credit card balance…the interest rates will kill youbrbrMax out your 401k; this lowers your tax rate, you can borrow against it to buy a car or house down payment, use it as an emergency fundbrbrDon’t buy an expensive car or boat…they rapidly lose value, can kill you or othersbrbrBuy instead of rent your residence Sooner is better, cause inflation will increase your value over timebrbrPay tithes and help the poor, and God will bless you, and it will keep you grateful for all the blessings you have brbrBe faithful and loyal to your boss, job, family Find a way to enjoy who you are, your position in life, take vacations and needed rest, use your gifts, talents, aptitudes, and ambitions to excel and benefit yourself, your loved ones, your community, your state, your nation, and the world And your soul will be rich beyond measure Comment from : @peacefulruler1 |
Ramsay is disingenuous most of the time Conservative crap Comment from : @FreezeGopher1 |
Not sure if this was accounted for the study, but teachers are overwhelmingly female and as far as I can tell likely to be married So was dual income accounted for the their presence in the top 5?brAlso, they get summers off and can retire relatively early so the additional employment opportunities are there Not to mention you can feasibly become a teacher without going into debt and can start working early in adulthood Comment from : @jims512 |
No one can afford a house The disgusting 400 increase in house prices has destroyed the future of young people Comment from : @Doug-rv3nr |

There would be more millionaires if there was not less tax!! Yes less taxes is huge!! But the biggest crime is tax on property and not being able to give your wealth to your kids !! That is banking greed Forcing people to have to have mortgages!! Comment from : @eco-beehive |
This is not entirely true Being an engineer does not make you into a millionairebrInstead, the characteristics that make a good engineer also likely make you into a millionairebrGood engineers are frugal - they use resources effectively They analyse and plan All those characteristics make for the mindset that will result in you becoming a millionaire Comment from : @cccmmm1234 |
The democrat party doesn't want you to think you can make it on your own if you apply yourself They want you to be dependent on the government to keep their voter base That's why they keep saying "the system is stacked up against you, you'll never make it on your own, vote for us so we can give you taxpayers money forever" Comment from : @dimas2381 |
You should do what Dave says It will change your life for the better Comment from : @danrowe1174 |
As an accountant, I can attest Dave is right Most of these jobs are solidly middle class, nothing splashy, no hope of cracking into a dramatically higher salary In fact, they compromise and accept a lower salary in return for better benefits But they use financial common sense and impulse control to build wealth gradually over their working lives It’s a long play, and it worksbrbrETA: yes, doctors really are bad with money Their arrogance blinds them, and they’re a target for stupid money schemes They can easily be flattered into paying high commissions to financial advisors (insurance agents) Comment from : @javaskull88 |
I think being a radical liberal gave me a tism, and no matter how much Michael Knowles and Brett Cooper I watch now I still can't talk to other humans the right way Comment from : @sonikmystique |

More than a “one way” of doing things, it’s actually a “systematic” way of doing things Underlying all good systems are plans, structures and discipline that make the practice of those professions possible Comment from : @alarriag1 |
The only problem is that a million dollars isn't what it use to be Comment from : @rust86 |
My brother is an engineer and the money ruined him brFocus on Christ and family and the rest will come Comment from : @hanschitzlinger3676 |
So this definition of “millionaire” is incorrect A technical millionaire isn’t what people want to aspire to be They want to have a millionaire lifestyle That would include financial independence (not having to work for someone) multiple properties and luxury assets such as cars boats, expensive holidays etc That lifestyles needs millions in liquid assets not 401k or homes To have that a “job” isn’t going to provide you with that as you need the ability to scale which you can’t do in job Comment from : @homopolemicus3449 |
I believe it has been said that for the average “Joe” 3 things will almost guarantee financial security 1 graduate at least high school 2 Don’t have kids out of wedlock don’t get in a bad marriage that leads to divorce … And of course have a decent work ethic or willingness to work Comment from : @alanaldpal950 |

We need to start adjusting these numbers for inflation brBecause I know from experience, a salary of $50,000 today bears zero resemblance to a $50,000 salary in 1980!brbrAccording to an online inflation calculator, you would need to have a net worth of $3,830,87379 to match a million dollars in 1980!brbrSo a million today was just $260,000 in 1980brbrA 57,000 salary today was just 15,000 in 1980 Comment from : @terrifictomm |

I think the trick is getting paid for something and distracting oneself with doing that thing that’s enjoyable and gets you paid That way it’s super easy to get rich as a construction worker or whatever If you keep your money coming in, minimize expenses and keep on chuckin in your thing That way when you get home after work you don’t dump it all into some thing you buy because you don’t really have time to use anything outside of work Comment from : @HexlGaming |
This is post hoc fallacy It's so tiring to see this crap again and again Just because someone with little empathy can take a corrupt job and do well, doesn't mean that someone with more empathy should and will do well as a result Also, the argument assumes the trade-off for those who did those jobs was worth it Comment from : @BoreasCastel |
