Those sponge applicators are worthless except for spot cleanups or for blending out lipliner to avoid a harsh, overly defined line

I mentioned his name to a salesperson at Sephora one time and she had no idea who he was He’s so important in the makeup industry and he was an inspiration for soooo many I’m like girl you HAVE HAVE HAVE to google him and get his first book at the very least It’s a MUST HAVE!!

My biggest game changer is never putting a used brush away I always swipe it against a silicone scrubby to clean the residue off I wash the brushes once a week Clean tools are healthy tools and when you do thisno more unexpected blunders with mixed makeup Same goes for sponges and applicator wands

As a fellow redhead who is very pale, I have always stayed away from black eyeshadow except to line my upper lid This looks so good I may have to try it! I think it would look gorgeous in a deep purple too

AhhI remember seeing looks in magazines and having no idea how to even begin trying to do them I literally just wore black eyeliner for years I didn't get right into makeup till my 20's This is so nice! I don't think it would work on my hooded eyes, but I do love it!

I still have that book!!! And I bought it around the time you got it for Christmas I, too, failed at the Julia Roberts look, maybe I will attempt it again now One thing I didn't like about Kevyn's books - he tended to leave out steps which annoyed many of us But the looks were great, and honestly, most of them aren't horribly horribly dated and some are bdeliberately/b dated (the movie star looks) so I keep it around, even though I have YouTube now What a shame that Kevyn died so young :(

Achieving any "look" depends so much on an individual's eye shape and structure (ie hooded vs no hood, large eyelid or small eyelid, deep set or not)

I love all manner and colors of smoky style shadow looks brThe simple black and nude looks so good though The black contrasts with any eye color for the perfect emphasis I think anyone can wear a version of this type of look if they keep the shadow in a placement and intensity suited to individual eye shape❤

When you picked up the LA Girl pencil, I said, "There you go" I LOVE their pencils I think my favourite look from this book is "The Enigma" - I tried it a few years ago at the height of the pandemic, and I can't tell you how cathartic it felt to just smash a mascara wand all around my eyes

Hi Z! Lisa Eldridge just talked about Kevyn Aucoin in her latest video and a look similar to this and she specifically talked about how difficult the look is to do with modern eye pencils! The kohls they used were way more smudgable Maybelline makes smoky liners that may be what you need for this!

The reason we cant copy these looks perfectly --according to Lisa Eldridge - is because we're using the new technology longwear pencils instead of the natural Kohl that created the 90s lived-in effect And you had to really let it melt in and move around She said that modern pencils don't melt move or smudge which is their downfall when it comes to these types of looks As she was there in the 90s doing it, she knows how Kevin did it I have a couple of natural pencils i keep aside for these effects, and a nice greasy black creme shadow is handy too, like Calvin Klein or Mac
