Fun fact: Arthur worked to lower some tariffs (to help the economy), which was unusual for republicans at the time; he vetoed pork-barrel spending; carried out Garfield’s civil service reform; and had an appropriately restrained foreign policy Though his signing of a Chinese immigration exclusion act was wrong, though something the majority in the country were pushing for sadly
