@vanessa_fdy
Medicine students are built different! I just had my final exams and now having a summer break I'm just cleaning the house and listening to your input which is going to make a huge difference for my future learning process! I usually avoid videos like this because I'm immediately feeling bad and guilty, knowing I'm supposed to study at that moment so now is the perfect time :D

@PhiksuPlantBiologist
Did you know that the brain is mostly made of fat? The heart relies on fat for about 80 of its fuel That might be why we store fat What's left over is stored as adipose fat or used for the brain I think that vegetable fats and fish oil are less likely to be used directly by the heart as fuel and less likely to be stored in adipose tissue Olive oil did wonders for the Greeks and Romans Oily fish has omega-3's and neurofilament proteins Letting yourself gain weight (body fat) studying hard may build up brain fat; however, getting fat by sugar overconsumption probably is bad because it leads to diabetes
Comment from : @PhiksuPlantBiologist

@PhiksuPlantBiologist
I know you like coffee, and I like tea, so I thought I would share some of my tricks Caffeine supposedly works by blocking adenine receptors in the brain Actually if you drink too much coffee or tea, it will make you tired I put low sodium soy sauce in my tea, because it is a source of glutamate, a stimulatory neurotransmitter I also add B vitamin liquid which can convert glutamate to GABA (for focus) Another additive is pedialyte with dextrose (glucose) Glucose is the preferred fuel of the brain, and glucose is better than sucrose (sugar) You should also eat a bit of simple starch for more glucose, and even build up glycogen reserves for study
Comment from : @PhiksuPlantBiologist

@PhiksuPlantBiologist
Do you know about VitalSource Bookshelf? I have online lifetime access to Voets' Biochemistry The phone app can read the text to you, and you can follow along reading In addition, you can highlight and write notes on your online copy I think there also might be test questions in a workbook, but I haven't got to use it yet
Comment from : @PhiksuPlantBiologist

@skuarez
This is exactly how I studied for biology and other subjects I made a little question catalog with what I assumed would come to the test and just filled out stuff I already knew And the stuff I didn't know, I would just look for the answer in my notes and write it, because afterwards I would question myself again anyways by covering the answers with a piece of paper This way I memorize some stuff before I even beginn studying
Comment from : @skuarez

my favorite video on studying
Comment from : @Zetsuke4

@AngelsAndButterflies
But it's "the more brain power used the better the information sticks" not "the more time wasted on laborious work the better the information sticks" Just had to write that out for myself, I need to actually use brain power, not just make studying difficult for myself
Comment from : @AngelsAndButterflies

@erinscannon
I can't believe you don't have more subscribers -- this channel is fantastic I love your studying tips, but I love even more that you share your thoughts about not getting caught up in perfectionist culture, reflecting on what really matters, having a happy life now and not just when you reach some educational goal Keep up the excellent work I'm going to share your channel with my kids (two in HS & two in college) and others Also, RemNote has such great potential, and I can't wait to see how it develops over time My kids and I are putting all of their encyclopedic "Marvel" knowledge into RemNote for a fun way to learn its many features
