2023 Update: The new vending machines they installed at my workplace work either via the classic banknotes or via an app that you can install on your phone The app allows you to communicate with the machine via Bluetooth and order your coffee or whatever you wanna get and it gets the money directly from your credit card (no Google Pay or Apple Pay unfortunately, despite me literally begging them to introduce the feature) The Vending Machine also has a classic 24 GHz Wi-Fi antenna to process transactions and report to the maintenance when it's running out of components (coffee, sugar, cups etc) All in all, it could be better, but AT LEAST there's some progress in 2023

OK We know what the issue is "You know it, the manufacturer knows it, and, NOW, I know it also" The question remains though What can we do about it? I mean, other than changing the entire currency (which is about to happen, anyway) You know those (cleaning sheets) for a printer? Maybe a couple of those could be attached to the machine? About that $1 coin, The US actually has one We just mint it in small numbers and most vending machines won't accept larger than a quarter brbrAnd amusingly our half-dollar, when it was still minted at all, is even bigger than the dollar coin which itself is just slightly larger than a quarter but is gold colored I don't know if gold was ever used in it or when they cut the gold content if it was Also I think US $1 coins lack the ridges on the rim
