My parents always taught me the importance of learning outside of a classroom and continue to embody that well into their second stage of life I'm glad someone is advocating for all the life long learners out there! Comment from : @catalinawinem1xer |

What a wonderful talk! I agree that retirement is often seen as a time of decay, yet it's fascinating to instead see it as a time for growth and flourishing Thanks for sharing this insight!! Comment from : @ignaciohidalgo9932 |

The speech has resonated immensely as I reflect on my grandparents and how they have made the most of their third act of life I aspire to do the same when I am older Inspiring talk! Comment from : @eliweiner3965 |

While I am only entering Act II of my life, my parents are preparing for Act III of retirement This is perfect for myself to think about and to send to my parents to help comfort them and get them excited for the next stage of their lives! Comment from : @sarahchang5314 |

As I am preparing to enter the workforce, I found this talk really helpful for re-thinking the idea that having a job is the "real world" versus college or schooling I love the idea of education as a means to finding and realizing ones purpose Comment from : @sobby0321 |
As a college senior ready to enter the "second act" of my life, Dr Byerly has succeeded in making me excited for my "third act" already! Thank you to Dr Byerly, as well as the lifelong learners who inspire us all Comment from : @elianashapiro8476 |
This talk gives a powerful perspective for individuals as they grow older and experience the different stages of life It really provides you with an excitement for the future rather than a dread for what may be coming next As a college senior about to enter the real world, this is exactly the outlook I need to cultivate living life as a life long learner Comment from : @drakedoolittle2863 |
I love the idea of breaking down life into three stages, and giving each of those stages its own purpose while also stressing that learning and playing are just as important in each one I think that so often, we forget that there is much more to life than just growing up and working, and we forget to actually live in our present Comment from : @jessicayoung5716 |
I am currently on the cusp of entering Act 2 in my life, and to me, this was a daunting realization I'm glad I listened to this talk because it provided me with a new perspective on life and lifelong learning! Comment from : @hankt2000 |

A great talk discussing a very hopeful view of aging that is often overlooked I, for one, have viewed retirement as a stagnant time consisting of golf, but I am happy to learn that there might be more to it! Comment from : @rorycavan4367 |
Really enjoyed this Ted Talkbefore watching this, I used to be afraid of getting older because I thought it meant that I wouldn't be able to do anything meaningful or have any purposethis Ted Talk changed my perception of how I view old age, as well as how I think about my future Thank you Comment from : @matthewbrathwaite6696 |
Awesome! Definitely a message that hits close to home for myself and many others entering a new stage of life Comment from : @andreasehrnrooth2361 |

I dread aging it all pans back to my fear of dying without having fulfilled my "greater purpose" Dr Byerly's talk has left me with a sense of comfort that allows me to view aging as a space for growing my knowledge and understanding of the world, instead of as an inevitable step closer to death Fabulous TED talk! Comment from : @tinkervella |
Looking forward to my third act already :) Comment from : @MapleMalou |
I love the focus on this Ted Talk, especially keeping those people in mind that are in their "third act" in my life Someone like my grandma, who has fulfilled every part of life that she could during her first two acts, is now reaping the benefits in her third She is such a wonderful lady that exemplifies the principles of being a life long learner Possessing so much knowledge but also yearning to possess more and explore more, I have always known that she is a wise woman This video further confirms that for me! Great work Professor Byerly :) Comment from : @lilyjarosz6231 |

I loved this speech, thank you for tackling this topic I’ve shared it with my parents, and hope they also embrace the next stage of their life as an opportunity to learn Comment from : @williamreynolds5804 |
As a freshman in college, I feel comforted by Professor Byerly's reminder to seek fulfillment and purpose in all "acts" of life rather than just in my future career I hope we can start viewing retirees as people who are still doing what they're passionate about and carrying out their life purpose Comment from : @kateseneshen8312 |
As a student that just started college, this talk shifted my perspective on how my future is so much more than the career path or job I pursue, but the importance of the love of learning and finding self-fulfillment regardless of age Thank you for this amazing talk! Comment from : @andrewbae4310 |
As you said "learning together keeps your mind awake" and I couldn't agree more! Wonderful talk that reminded me that even though I am about to graduate college I will always be a lifelong learner Thank you for allowing me to learn together with you as I explore my future paths! Comment from : @juanitavargas382 |
I really enjoyed the analogy of the thirds of your life being broken into the bronze, silver, or gold sections It's a great reminder of how keeping an open mind and heart can set us up for long term success, and is very comforting! Comment from : @dorothyzhan6851 |
The aspiration to learn throughout all acts of one's life is inspiring Comment from : @Jack__798 |
I really enjoy the comforting and inspiring speech The point of changing our perspective of life from the mundane pursuit of job titles to a lifelong journey of learning and fulfillment is enlightening Our anxiety over age and "success" can be so much reduced if we simply think in another way Comment from : @claireli1551 |
Understanding how life comes in three main acts has really opened my eyes to the importance of living in the present I am a college Freshman, and in the next few years will be entering the second major act of my life I intend to take these next few years to work on fulfilling the first act of my life, and setting my future self up for success This was a wonderful TED Talk! Comment from : @clairehardek5623 |
I really enjoyed this speech - very inspiring and it motivates me to continue learning I'm less scared now of the Third Act of life - education and learning is something that continues throughout life, and lasts a lifetime I hope that I can continue learning, regardless of my age, as it engages me and allows me to create new experiences Comment from : @alicezhang4526 |
As a college senior nearing graduation, probably the most dramatic/scariest transition I've had to face, this talk gives me a lot of comfort As long as we keep learning and working to make each 'act' as fulfilling as the last, we might just be able to drown out our fear with excitement for what the future may hold Thank you Comment from : @brentkatz5641 |
This talk comes at a fitting time as the idea of early retirement becomes more popular Fantastic message encouraging people to live out their calling and use all of our years productively and fulfillingly! Glad to hear this in Act I Comment from : @KennyMoon7 |
A wonderful talk that I'm sure is comforting the people entering retirement, but is also just as comforting to college students There's definitely a fear of growing old and exiting exciting college years, but reframing how we think about retirement is important in preserving our youth Very intelligently put Ingrid! Comment from : @ryanthompson628 |

What a wonderful talk to reflect on the higher purpose of education Comment from : @kouboi0 |

As a college student who finds myself basing my personal value on what my level of success in my future career will be, this talk has allowed me to reflect on my goals and how I could reach self-fulfillment through learning regardless of my job position Thank you! Comment from : @lailadames8386 |
