I understand the meaning behind assigning a buddy but I feel like many things would go wrong for both parties The ELL student and the buddy Unless its a volunteer situation, I feel it would put some sort of pressure on the “buddy” which could make the ELL student feel almost like a burden I think this idea would either function really well and be super helpful or not at all Comment from : @HaleyTalksCrime |

Excellent presentation It will help so many teachers Comment from : @BlancaGuerrero-q7v |
|
It is true that in Shelter Instruction,n Staff Development is not only helpful but key Great presentation! Comment from : @noemiross3066 |

Hello, I am a student at Arizona State University and I am taking a course on evaluation and research in education For my final project/paper I am writing about effective strategies for teaching ESL I really enjoyed your video and all of the great information provided Effective communication is important in teaching and connecting with students Using hand signals and other forms of communication to enhance speaking can be especially helpful for students who come from cultures that are expressive or that may use their hands to help determine what words are being said I also find the idea of group work and interacting with fellow students and educators as effective Peer work can encourage dialogue and discussion about what is being learned and help facilitate understanding from different perspectives Using more than one strategy is definitely important in keeping students motivated and engaged in lessons Something that has played a larger role in education in recent years is technology How do you think technology can be used as an effective strategy to teach ESL? Great video! I enjoyed it a lot I do believe that "emergent bilingual" is the term we should all be using because the other terms they are coded with just puts on another label on them Comment from : @MichelleBolanos-sv1kx |
|
Hey! Great video, thank you! When it comes to assigning an ESL kid, a buddy, or friend, do you recommend that being a fluent English speaker or another EL kid? Thanks in advance! Comment from : @cubalashea2035 |

Hello Teachings in Education, brbrMy name is Amber Johnson and I am part of Mary Lou Teachers College at ASU I am currently studying ELL learners that are Spanish speaking, I am looking for three instructional strategies that will be beneficial to their vocabulary development I am in a class that goes into research for literacy reviews brbrWhat can the parent do at home to benefit their Spanish-speaking EL learner? Do you think that they should only speak Spanish or use both English and Spanish?brbrHow can they support their EL learner if they only know Spanish?brbrWhat three instructional strategies can be used at home for EL learners to benefit their language development??brbr-Amber Johnson Comment from : @ed-master3586 |

3:50 Poor way to title that slide, BICS and CALP should be switched The way the acronyms are arranged make it seem as if BICS is for content language and CALP is for social language This is very confusing and should be addressed Otherwise, a very informative video Thank you Comment from : @paulwagner4028 |

One teacher I saw teaching English made the boys do 5 pushups and the girls do 10 jumping jacks if they forgot something from the day before Since, Thailand has a no fail system, he wanted the students to have some skin in the game and if they don't want to learn, at least they will be strong for physically demanding jobs when they enter the workforce ;p Comment from : @MyLifeThai371 |

Great video May suggest two themes? i'd suggest "teaching adults" known as andragogia and teaching EFL as it is very different than ESL For example, I teach english in Brasil, so all my students speak portuguese and have the same cultural background Comment from : @n-silvabts9178 |
