can trhis work for mac Comment from : @TylerVisuals |
so, could I theoretically take one of these, fill it with m2/HDD/SSD, and put one in each room, and have an entire-house NAS, or would they all act like independent units that can't manage storage together? If I'm going to do a good NAS at home, I need redundancy and lots of storage Comment from : @JRJohnson1701 |
Please speak English next time Comment from : @MARK-cb9iq |

also an interesting thing you can do with them is instead of NVME drives you can install AI accelerators and have 120 TOPS and 32gb built in ram and run some fairly large LLM on them and only use 15watts of power Comment from : @skrywenko6596 |
well, you are someone who needs 2TB of storage, you are most likely a professional and $100 per year is affordable Some small businesses may choose to have on site cloud server but I dont believe this is a good solution for a home user I pay peanuts to google for 100GB drive and I get 1TB of onedrive throguh office365 Comment from : @uralmutlu4320 |

Nice, but I have Microsoft 365 Family for 6 people for € 65,- per year Which I in part charge to the other users of my subscription That gives us 6TB Onedrive storage and all the other goodies like a full Office Suite, Copilot, Designer, Clipchamp, Teams And no hassle of keeping a device online (With the hassle of being available via a router that does not have a fixed IP) brbrIMO value that is hard to beat Comment from : @passais |
I still want off site backup Comment from : @mgweir3252 |

no shot you got those ssd's @ 165 Comment from : @tomwhite7982 |
The thing is: I need Office for work (6€/month), so I get additional cloud Storage from microsoft and I need iCloud for my Phone for a large image and video library and some other benefits (10€(month)brIf I really needed additional storage I would just attach an HDD or SSD to my Fritz Router, so why would I need an extra Device thats not "just working"? Also sometimes internet at home does not work due to maintenance etc Comment from : @VarouEx |
It’s FAR more expensive than he’s saying Comment from : @CosmicGorilla |

I'm currently running OpenMediaVault on a Raspberry Pi 4 8gb Along with plexbrbrI have 2 1tb SSDs attached via a powered USB hub because the Pi doesn't supply enough power to the USB ports to keep the drives mounted continuouslybrbrI backup my phone using an app called Autosync It lets me sync whatever I want Even letting me set restrictions so that only certain files sync So for example I sync the PDF version of comics and Manga I've acquired to my phone without having to keep the individual pages in a separate folderbrYou have to pay like 10 bucks for the different services you sync with like google drive or an SMB server but it's a perpetual license Comment from : @NyxHunter |
Photo sync app is now subscription based 7:50 Comment from : @EddieandSophieViney |

321 backup strategy 3 total locations, 2 on-site, 1 off-site Still useful to have the pay service and also have the local Fires and floods happen Comment from : @Cuandoman |
Except that as configured the NAS would be $130 w/o Hard drives $95 for the processor board w 4GB RAM, and $35 for the NAS kit A little bait and switch Linus Tech? Comment from : @jrjohnson5336 |
If your house burns down your nas will be fine & if your nas fails your data will also be fine😂 Comment from : @jackweta |
I mean if its your hobby doing stuff like this I would like your idea to move the cloud storage into your home At the moment I'm paying like $3 for 1TB cloud storage monthly If I'm calculating all together I have to run the cloud storage like 6 years or more for a break even point The work with a local storage is also not done finished you have installed it once You sometimes have to update the software on the device or replace something on failure For me its too much administration work in my daily business so I stay on the lazy cloud storage way 🙂 Comment from : @christopherbinder8967 |
4:00 - and How would I power the SATA drives? Comment from : @hfgd_gaming |
With a 1x 25 Gb/s Ethernet port, you don't even need all those NVMe SSDs Comment from : @radoslavmatusevicius6143 |
paying for cloud storage might be stupid Setting up this device which has all its software pre-installed from the Chinese and might be reporting to Chinese Intel Serivces is way stupider I'm so livid that you didn't disclose how impossible it is to replace the pre-loaded software with your own That's the only reason you go with OpenMediaVault right? Because it comes pre-installed Comment from : @Joe-ff4if |
be nice if there was some sort of case/shell for this Comment from : @CrzyAce |
would this be suitable for using it as a home assistant NAS to store the surveillance video recordings from the Frigate addon? I'm trying to increase my storage, i am using the MS-01 as my home assistant machine, which has 25GB lan, would that be enough bandwidth for 9 cameras? they roughly use about 12 to 2gb per hour for each camera 4 use less as i dont need them always recording but a few do and use around 2gb/hr I've looked and looked for info and cant seem to find a concrete answer Comment from : @JbVest |
My offsite backup is a monthly (or so) hard drive swap of encrypted data from my NAS into a safe deposit box at my bank Comment from : @blazel462 |
When they offer a Board with 10G Network i'm in!brThis is amazing Comment from : @Infinity0205 |
Don't fall for it Always back up your data to the cloud, or you will regret it one day There will be a flood, a burglar who takes the NAS along, a software failure that corrupts the entire NAS, or Ransomware The list goes on Always use the 3-2-1 backup doctrine, which says to put your files in three storage media or two different media types and place one offline site Do this, and you will thank me someday Comment from : @Joomlaclass |
A lot of these prices have jumped in just a matter of months Linus effect? Comment from : @ayellowbeard |
Hmm I disagree If u use 6 Gb flash drive and it is scanned properly it will be secure I always back up on the cloud google too I can get a 2 Terabytes HD (expensive) but worth it Comment from : @chanheosican6636 |

abusing your employess is stupid Comment from : @saulcalderon9777 |
I’m looking for recommendations for a device focused on photo storage as an alternative to paying for cloud services like Apple iCloud or Google Photos Specifically, I need something capable of storing large amounts of pictures while keeping them easily accessible, similar to how these cloud services work
br
brAre there any plug-and-play devices that fit this need? Or would it be better to invest in a NAS (Network Attached Storage) and navigate the software setup? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Comment from : @jamesishere6630 |
Not only stupid - but dangerous Comment from : @TT3TT3 |
