another explanation: usually the same set of gauges is used for multiple variants of the same model, also with cheaper manufacturers they might be used for other models as well, to save costs

Actually there's a much bigger reason than that Longevity Think about it like this, if you're constantly running your engine at it's highest possible speed, it probably won't last very long For example, say your engine has a top speed of 120 mph, and you push it to that 120 mph every single day It probably won't survive past 80,000-100,000 miles on the odometer, if that But if that same engine was capable of 220 mph, and it only got to 120 mph every day, it'll be usable for a lot longer
