Banco Occidente stole $6000 from me I was shorted on a withdrawal I had a receipt and reported to them and the police immediately They never checked They did not close the ATM I recommend against them Also, Bancolombia is holding a large transfer and not releasing it!! That is not an ATM issues but it speaks to the high ethical caliber of the bean takers there Maybe making short-term, high-interest loans? Hi Rob, I have a checking and Capital one Credit Card Account I withdraw from Davivienda and Banco Caja Social and do not get charged any fees from with drawing money They give a very good rate We have done this for over 2 years So just a tip and I hope it helps someone out there Comment from : @seeitwithme1412

Yep Rob I use to use bbva until I seen that automatic 15 mil pesos strangely after the change of Presidents and I also seen that conversion and on others I pressed no and when it still gave me the money i thought they got me but it gave me the good conversion and not the scam Easiest way to get robbed in Colombia now is the atms and casa de cambios Comment from : @Spenglish

A friend of mine living here in Medellin for 5yrs just got got at an ATM on calle 10 He was having trouble at the machine and a guy walked up and offered to help Without knowing, the guy switched cards on him Cost him a 10k Never use ATMs on the street I can tell you that banco Colombia will not reimburse any fees or as well as please Comment from : @hammertyme8392

This is valuable information Despite the high ATM fees, some US Banks will reimburse ATMs fees My bank refunds me up to 15 dollars a month for US and foreign ATMs ATMs are still the best way to convert and withdraw funds Idk why some travelers are focused on converting money at currency exchange venues They are definitely legal robbery as well When I decline the ATM conversion rates, it basically allows your home Bank to give you the closest possible rate on the market Banco de Bogota is good but they don’t give you the option to decline their atm conversion fee I think BBVA is the same as well Comment from : @nymarine215

Your information is slightly misleading Medellin is loaded with Banco ColombiabrDavivienda is not a big player here Now in Perieria Davivienda owns that town, try and find a Banco Colombia there ! If you decline the conversion, Davivienda gets nothing, but if your using a Visa debit card from your bank, Visa takes 1 percent !brFor Visa if you want to find out the true conversion rate for the day is, do a web search for Visa currency exchange rate enter in the currency info That will give you the exchange rate for today You will find out that this rate is spot on minus the 1 Visa chargesbrDavivienda ATM's can be problematic Usually the problem is,,,,,,,,,, there out of money Pay attention to the time of month Colombians get paid on the 1st and the 15th of the monthThe ATM's will be fully restocked the day before that Comment from : @Wistundra

You are putting us on game!!brbrOther advice i follow: i keep my small bills and change (20, 10, 5 and 2 mil COPs) on one side of my passport holder (i use that as my foreign currency wallet) and my big bills (50 mil COPs) on the other side I keep my metro card and my debit card in the front since I use them more brbrI would make sure to follow the USD to COP rate online regularly so you wont get got Bancolombia usually charges high conversion rates as well I personally like Davevienda (thats the green and white one, right?) because it usually charges me less ratebrbrIf youre staying for 3-4 days, 1,000,000 pesos may be good enough for food, clothing and souvenirs I use my debit card and cash, so I pull out about 1,000,000 pesos if I'm staying over 5 days brbrNEVER GET MONEY OR EXCHANGE MONEY WHEN YOU LEAVE FROM THE AIRPORT!!!
