What a joke, these companies don't pay for skill they pay for your ability to travel and not be home so if you ever intend on having a wife and kids, you'll never crack that 30 line GE aerospace wasn't paying but 2 or 3 bucks more than the McDonald's down the road, and I had to pass 8 tig tests through x-ray before I was even allowed to touch a part Comment from : @LordButterstotch |

I welded in paper mills, chemical plants and hospital boiler rooms I did not want to add to the radsioactive waste problem So, plenty of opportunities out there, everyday was an adventure I was especially attracted to learning about threaded pipe I met two guys who showed me the basics I ran many hundreds of feet on jobs On scaffolds, ladder tops and on the groundwith not one leak br My favorite pipe work took place in hospital boiler rooms From welding pipes, making supports for themout of position weldsrunning copper & threaded fuel oil lines (that oil is very fineDon't dare go any more than 2to 2-1/2 turns by hand when testing the threads by hand) Almost had a leak on one jointWas able to just tighten that one enough br I know my efforts are to the good at a hospital br My fav of faves is VA Hospital boiler room work Comment from : @petersipp5247 |

You definitely need to have a natural ability to be a good welder It is 100 not for everybody I’ve welded on heavy machinery, thin mufflers, to stainless sprayer tanks that were leak tested And all those places had one thing in common… people who should NOT be welders I welded for about 10 years and got out of it cause the pay wasn’t there And I have family so pipe welding is out of the question as far as traveling goes But I now work maintenance making 6 figures with no college degrees so I’ll take that any day Still miss welding though It’s a definite art form and I was good at it Comment from : @ericduncan7266 |

I'm currently in school to be a history teacher, I've been thinking a lot about picking up a trade just to learn something practical & useful & have a side job & welding peaked my interest I will say I've never worked in any construction or the like but I am a hardworker & try my best at any job I've been at Anyway my question to anyone is this, would welding be a beneficial trade to pick up as something more casual(weekends or few days of work) instead of a full time job? The company I work for builds ROPS and FOPS safety structureswe had so many "pipe welders" coming through for temporary work that wash out during testing, or they make it through testing and cant weld what we do on a daily basis It was so bad at one point I told our weld instructor to wad up and throw away any "pipe welders" application Comment from : @aaronbuchanan2030 |

Feels good to know you can get payed very well doing welding, but it feels way better to do it as a creative outlet in my personal opinion Even if payed jobs are few and far in between, it'll be jobs I choose and not some hourly J-O-B sucking the life out of me Comment from : @sergiosandoval7955 |

I am 62 and I just like learning new skills I find that the trades teach me stuff I can use Took so many college classes and never used most of it Problem with the trades is you can age out much younger Took auto technology when I was 45 Employers told me I was too old for it I figure, if I learn how to do stuff and employers don't want it due to age, that's their problem Took HVAC in 1990 Used it a few times to work on a fridge, fix a a washer/dryer I had a busted board on a furnace, so I couldn't fix that Comment from : @inhibited44 |

I've been welding for decades, mostly thin stuff 1/4" or thinner I never set out to be a welder, I just fell into it and had the knack These past few years the employers I work for have absolutely killed any fun I got out of welding I call it just bad luck getting tied in with these people What I enjoy most about welding is the ability to build and repair cars, race cars, and similar stuff If you're creative and can weld, you can build all kinds of crazy stuff Comment from : @ncjay08 |

hi, i'm a 17 year old girl who just recently got introduced to welding by a friend and i'm showing some interest in it, i would like to make enough money to live comfortably with my family when i marry, but also would like to be there with them instead of traveling to the more high-paying jobs you said in the videobri'm just trying to learn more about welding itself and the jobs that i can get through welding, also i'm planning on moving back to montana after high school (my parents moved in my freshman year) so i hope there will be more opportunities for me therebri'm not totally sure on my path yet but i'm about to start my junior year and i need to be thinking about my plan after high school, at first it was to be a business major and it still kind of is, i'm taking a few AP and honors classes next year, along with classes that'll introduce me to business so i don't want to completely dump that path but still want to explore welding as a careerbrsorry for the long paragraph, if there's any advice you could give me it would be greatly appreciated!
