Rob uses money market "account" and "fund" interchangeably in this video but they are not Money market ACCOUNTS (MMAs) are usually FDIC insured and a hybrid between a high-yield savings and checking account Money market FUNDS are an investment you can purchase through a broker and are not FDIC insured Comment from : @codycoblentz4284 |

Hi Rob! I'm wondering how you're feeling about this account now, one year later, given the grim prospects for the US and global economies ahead in the final part of 2025 and 2026 I'm conisdering moveing out of the Fidelity Money Market and into Vanguard to secure my funds given the prospect of a dramatic downturn and the devaluation of the dollar Comment from : @InsideJobwithKatie |

Cash Plus is an interest-bearing account that gives you a routing number and account number which makes bill pay possible This is the only way an outside company can directly access one of your Vanguard accounts (None of your other Vanguard accounts will have a routing number (provided by PNC Bank) associated with it) Comment from : @robertlong7723 |

Vanguard lets you opt out of any of their participating banks, which is not only nice to guarantee FDIC insurance, but also if you do not want to support a bank like Wells Fargo Comment from : @Th3Think3r |

I like E*Trades all-in-one approach and they have a great Banking solution that blends nicely with the Brokerage aspect I have used this platform for decades And since October 2020 when Morgan Stanley acquired E*Trade, the products and service have only gotten better which has been a bonus for a platform I had already enjoyed using prior to the MS takeover Comment from : @Stack_Silver |

I opened this account but have since transferred funds out of it for one reason There is no way to setup TOD beneficiaries on this account I have called Vanguard 3 times and also sent 3 messages to them requesting info on setting up beneficiaries, no-one would help me I am now considering moving assets to Fidelity because of Vanguards lack of any customer service I am concerned my beneficiaries may have trouble assessing the funds without any customer service to assist them Comment from : @jerrydean648 |

I was thinking about using Vanguard and sweeping it to a MMF Do you happen to know if the core position in a MMF can be liquidated and used to pay bills automatically? I have been using Fidelity, and it seems like it can keep my position in the SPAXX MMF until I need to pay bills It automatically liquidates the funds and transfers them out Does Vanguard’s Cash Plus account do the same? Comment from : @tamwilfred |
I kind of wish you had spent more time going over why choose the money market fund vs something like a high yield savings account if the returns are roughly the same For example, suppose ufb and vmfxx had been exactly the same yield Comment from : @dreadlord9257 |
Hey Rob! Love the content How do you feel about Fidelity cash management now that you can choose SPAXX as its core position? I was considering using that as my main checking and savings, their Visa as my 2 catch-all to reinvest the rewards…and my 401k is already with them Thanks in advance! Comment from : @dogdadmaestro |
My take is that you concentrate on Vanguard How about comparing V with Fidelity, Schwab and some others? A chart or two Is it advisable to use just ONE that you can trust and rely on? Assuming I don't have the time or energy to keep track At one time, I had so many I got a headache with them So I went with an advisor and let him make my decisions But - I do want to be able to tell him what he can do for me Example: I tell him what NOT to buy Comment from : @morganfbilbo462 |
Thank you for this detail I opened the Cash Plus account to hold my "fun money" of under $1K It's easier for me to have it there than to open at a new institution for just that A MM account requires a higher initial investment I learned a lot from this video Thank you Comment from : @janethunt4037 |

I was looking for ways to keep my cash readily available while still earning some interest before using it to pay off credit cards This led me down a rabbit hole trying to understand the difference between checking and savings accounts these daysbrbrTraditionally, checking accounts were for writing checks and paying bills, while savings accounts offered interest but limited transactions However, some banks now blur the lines For example, my Fidelity Bloom savings account sweeps money into a money market fund and still allows me to pay bills The government money market fund is (SPAXX) which currently has a 495 yield The one year return was 505brbrI wonder is this a good choice or if there are better options out there Comment from : @peterparker2068 |

Should we be concerned if the funds are deemed to be held in one of the states with an Estate or Inheritance Tax? I want my heirs to receive ALL of my holdings (which are below the Federal Estate Tax Exclusion amount) I looked at Pennsylvania's Inheritance tax law because I was offered 465 APY by PNC Bank in a high yield savings (online) account I live out west, but the way I read the law, Pennsylvania would be able to tax any amount a beneficiary received from this account upon my death This is not often spoken about, but it should be Comment from : @joshm3342 |

Fidelity is paying 496 on their money market today Someone below claims that Schwab pays even more Not FDIC insured but almost every money planner I have ever listened to says it makes no difference Is there a reason why Vanguard is paying almost 5 less than Fidelity? |
Rob,brI've kept all of my cash in VMFXX and had been lazily wondering whether a CD might offer better returns I finally visited the Vanguard site yesterday to compare them and was happy to see that VMFXX compared well, at least on the 7-day rate (I'm not sure that a 7-day time frame really tells much?) I left feeling comfortable with keeping things as they werebrWhile browsing the money market info comparisons I couldn't help but notice the super high rate of the Corporate BBB fund (It was over 14 yesterday) I'm sure it's much riskier, but I would love to hear your explanation of what the risks are brbrThanks for all you do Comment from : @glennr9913 |

I had an Ally savings and it was ok I'm going to try this because it has bill pay so I can keep the money I have in my checking and my savings in this account and gain interest on both Comment from : @dhyskRand |

Agree the Vanguard US Treas MMkt Acct is good for many reasons for those of us in Taxifornia, it is exempt from Uncle Gavin's state taxes & still pays 529 effectively raising the true yield a touch higher Comment from : @robt-lg7jz |

Hi Rob, I watch you alot Good information, Here's what is not clear to me I currently am using aVanguard Cash Deposit Account (interest rate 37) inside my Roth IRA account Would I be able to convert that to a Cash Plus Account and use it as my investment sweep acount instead of what I am currently using thereby gtting 47 instead of 37 ? Comment from : @miketurchiaro589 |
I want it, I just don't see how you get it Does it work for a brokerage account? Good topic Reading the PDF on the Vanguard site it doesn't sound like this replaces your "sweep" account, it simply sounds like an FDIC savings account Comment from : @Jim-oo7dk |
Helpful information Can't you just set the sweep account to go to Vanguard federal money market paying 529 in your video, rather than the 47 of Vanguard Cash plus default investment? Comment from : @scotttruax8437 |

The Fidelity Cash Management account does a LOT more than described You can do any investment in that account, but I recommend keeping to cash like money market funds Fidelity will auto-sell a money market fund for you to settle your cash expenses I'm using FDLXX right nowbrbrNote that money market funds pay a lot better rate but are not FDIC insured They are covered by SIPC Comment from : @Sylvan_dB |

47 is pretty good for the Vanguard Cash Plus account! Most online saving accounts like American Express, etc, have 425!! Make sure to ask Vanguard how OFTEN you can withdraw from a Vanguard Cash Plus account, the max you can do per withdrawal, etc bEvery bank has a limited number of withdrawals per day or per month and a max amount you can do per withdrawal/b !!brbrbIMPORTANT/b : You are FDIC insured bup to/b the max amount of PER institution, regardless of how many accounts and how much accumulatively you have at that institution!!!!brbrbAND/b rememberThe more you make, the more the govt gets! So, don't sweat the small percentage differences between banks Choose good banks with good competitive rates, ones with pretty large capitals on hand or big market caps Try not keep all your eggs in one basket Comment from : @googolpi |

Hmmm if the Program Banks are paying Vanguard 470 plus expenses, they must be having problems attracting short-term deposits on their own Time to short the stock of these banks ? Comment from : @kevink7777 |
