Here from UK, I want to become an engineer(not sure which one), I just like maths and so I think engineer would be a good field for me but here is the thing, I am Asian and my parents have always dreamed of me becoming a doctor From the day I was born, they had decided that I will become a doctor And so coz of that in college I picked Biology(for my parents) and Maths(for my passion) I didn't pick Physics so that automatically rules out a lot of engineering degrees as in top universities in UK, physics is required with maths for most of the engineeing degrees But i can still do some other engineering and to make things even worse, my cousin who is a robotics engineer in Denmark(also comes to UK sometimes for his projects) told my parents that Engineering ain't worth it and it doesn't get paid good enough and there are not many job opportunities for engineering too and he also regrets becoming an engineer So now, for my parents engineering is THE worst degree on the planet I am in my last year at college, Believe it or not, I really started to choose my career path from my last year at school(2 years ago) and I still can't decide I have to decide this year as I have to apply to uni I don't know why I am telling this here but its really making me feel a bit better and is taking some burden off my shoulder for some reason, even though it not gonna make anything better for me in real life

Got a 24 on the MCAT so i wasnt cutt out for medicine I fell into managememt consulting instead I make way more and have a higher networth than nrarly all of my doctor friends The pitfall i see doctors fall into is living up to lifestyle expectations while those expectarions dont exist in other careers

Like the video but you need to separate engineers into two categories like doctors: software and traditional (civil/mechanical/chemical) Starting salary of the latter is closer to $60k with max $150k while software $120k to $350k (these are estimates) Thanks for putting this together!

Excellent breakdown, the best I've encountered on this topic It never occurred to me that doctors spend all their youthful years on the grind to become certified to practice and they have a very high annual income eventually but their younger years were not spent enjoying life as a young successful engineer can do The disparity in lifetime income and wealth for many doctors vs engineers is not in the end as great as one would think

It depends on how you define "rich" If you define it in terms of income, the answer is yes Doctors earn a high income relative to many other careers If you define it as high-net-worth, the answer is usually no It's really hard to build wealth from assets with the amount of student debt that doctors are in

I'm a chemical engineer graduate and currently in residency, med school is not as hard as engineering expecially chemical, as long as you're responsible for your actions and study you will pass unlike engineering which is very complex and hard especially physics and maths
