uh its usually Perochial schools that are religious based not private ones for example sacred heart Catholic K-8 school in East Boston which has since closed and been torn down though the church was rebuilt after a Jan 30 1965 fire the current church was consecrated in dec 1965 several gens of my family were baptized married etc in that church the school closed in the 90s dad graduated from the School in June 1973

I think the government saying you can either send your kids to a public school funded by your taxes or use that tax money to send them to a private school that may be more effective or desirable is a good system that makes a lot of sense It's like a separation of the education system from the state while maintaining universal k-12 education

I’ve heard some people with kids say “why shouldn’t we be able to take the taxes iwe/i ipay/i and use that money at whatever schools we want?” Here’s the thing a lot of people with school-age kids forget—a huge portion of their child’s education is funded by taxpayers that do not currently have school-aged kids Some are retired and their kids are grown, some are young and haven’t had kids yet Some haaven’t had kids and will never have kids, and some had a child and that child died in a horrible accident so, they too, do not currently have school-aged kids All of them pay taxes so other people’s kids can go to school Why is this? Well, it goes back to why public schools were started in this country They were not started to ease the financial burden of parents They were started because those that started them knew that a country with an educated population is more likely to prosper as a whole

Here in the UK it's much more simple we have Public Schools and State Schools (oh and some grammar schools) Anyone can go to Public School if they pay enough, the rest go to State School All our Public Schools are private, and most are charities (to save money, not to do good just like churches) Churches can run public schools, and state schools if they want, but believing in god is optional

Completely incorrect on your history The founding fathers wanted each individual state to decide how it was going to take care of it not the federal government When you're talking about the state you're talking about the individual states Many religious schools were paid for by the individual states it which only became a problem when the Catholic schools wanted a part of that money that the Protestant schools were already getting Anti-catholic prejudice is what brought about the change of non funding for religious schools
